Are you sick of paying $10 a drill bit?

Do you hate it when pliers stab you in the leg or get caught in the mesh of your shorts pocket, when you squat to land a fish?

Do you hate the feel of things in your pocket while crawling or climbing into spots "The Man" says you can fish anymore?

Did you just find some wheels you thought would be better suited to your work bench, only to discover, after install, that the brakes on the wheels didnt work?

Then watch this Vid

Do you sometimes find you've run out of the perfect jighead and going to the shop isnt an option before your next session - I do

But I also have a heap of bait fishing hooks and splitshots to Frankenstein up something the shops cant provide - its the new "Beefy Finesse" range from BFL.

Light weight but strong in the hook

And after picking up the leaves I cut off the Yuccas barehanded - I decided to whip out the jigsaw and make these.

now I have the ability to make sleek mm perfect bungees for the milk crate. (I'll grab some of those wire ones from 1bcf for the bigger jobs aswell - Thanks Donga)

The 8mm shock cord is a real snug fit and I had to melt it a bit to get it to fit in the housing - but once its in there - and you push the round collar over it to activate the gripping pins - it aint coming out - nearly did a sh1t trying to pull them apart

If you do use the ones I bought - I'd recommend putting some super glue inside the collar to keep it in place - if they swivel around they can come undone

Kayak sounder battery pack courtesy of a butchered cordless drill. Not my idea but plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery

Fishing Forster last weekend a good friend of mine managed to snap about a foot of the end of his rod, so rather than just throw the lot out I decided to make a project of it. I plan on stripping as many of the components off it as possible and fitting them to a new blank. My local tackle store has a few blanks on clear out so I figured I'd see if I can't make something of it. Funnily enough the original tip ended up getting lost, however upon arriving at Iluka 2 days later, sitting on the shelf under our unit was the foot of another broken rod with 4 perfectly fine guides on it. It would seem to me that a rod was in fact fated to be built.

First up I stripped all the guides off the 2 sections of blank. The 3 on the tip section are actually K guides but will still work fine with the others.

Next I decided to make an attempt at removing the old blank from the hand whilst salvaging as much of the handle as possible. This turned out to be rather difficult. First I decided to cut the blank in front of the handle. If you've ever wondered if the saw of a Leatherman can cut through a rod blank I can confirm that it can't. Luckily Sawzall blades make short work of carbon.

There is probably an easy way to get a rod blank out of a handle, and then there is inevitably a hard way. Unfortunately I don't know either of those ways and so I settled for this.

Unfortunately the afore mentioned method was less effective with the lower section of handle.

At the end of the day this is what I ended up salvaging from the rod, not too bad an effort if I may say so myself. I'll pick up a cheap-ish blank later this week and another section of handle to replace the one I destroyed. I'm aiming at a 6' 6-12lb snag bashing rod when I'm done but who knows, that may change.
