I called a couple of 1bcf's in Melbourne and got their staff to hunt around but no good.

I might give those plastic ebay ones a go - or make my own hooks out of coat hangers - I havent decided yet.

Just whipped up a hook from a coat hanger - it took 12 kilo's of pull to straighten. Took more effort than I was expecting. That would work for my current needs - but I ask very little of my bungee cords.

The ones you found look they would 10 times stronger so I might keep hunting

where as if you make one out of 15mm pvc pipe and a heat gun - the 10mm shock cord will explode in your hands before the pvc hook gives way - I couldnt see the scales coz my eyes were shut from straining so hard

that heat gun has paid for itself many times over, both in product manufacture and entertainment!

Yeah I might see if it can do anything to make slim steel rods more flexible next.

"Steel is just the element iron that has been processed to control the amount of carbon. Iron, out of the ground, melts at around 1510 degrees C (2750°F). Steel often melts at around 1370 degrees C (2500°F)."

My heat gun goes up to 600 degrees centigrade so I dont know what effect it will have - but I'm willing to find out.

edit - actually just checked and the portable gas burner might be better for higher heat

Just make sure you know what type of steel you're heating first

One of the birds at work saw my handy work with the bench and put in an order for a coffee table sized unit.

Job done

Ahh - didnt think of that - They're galvanized steel weed mat pegs. Are they ok or should I squint while heating them up.

Even the fellas want a piece of the action. A couple of skater punks have placed orders for mini quarter pipes.

I don't think squinting will help with the toxic fumes.... But you could give it a go, I guess? I could be wrong. It's happened before.

Seriously though, I watched my 11th grade metalwork teacher burn some gal once, made some pretty green flames and nice yellow smoke. The instant he inhaled a bit of that smoke he stopped breathing, stumbled out of the classroom and hit the deck. Took him a good 30 seconds to start breathing again, much to our relief, as nobody in my class particularly felt like giving him mouth to mouth.

Ahh right - Ok I'll set up a fan and be careful.
