But as I understand it - when you heat wood that has just been cut - there are lots of resins, moisture and fibres that become more flexible and stretchy. The wood can be bent and if you hold it in that position, it will reset as it cools. A naked flame takes moisture out of the wood which causes it to harden aswell. If wood cant be bent into shape at room temperature, you can use steam, friction or fire. But as I mentioned earlier - I dont know exactly what I'm talking about |

If you're a "Rugged Outdoor Adventurer/Lateral Thinking Innovative Ideas Man" like myself - these American TV series will be covering old ground. But if you're new to the game - They might be worth checking out
"Dual Survival" - Put 2 dudes out in a survival situation - Both have different backgrounds in how to survive - let them argue about how to get back to safety. "Dude You're screwed" - If you can get over the over the top personalities, theres some interesting footage. You have 5 survival experts. Each week, one gets captured, blind folded and dropped somewhere nasty. They have 100 hours to make it back to civilization. Last edited by yellow door 1; 13-05-2015 at 04:04 AM. |

Did your old esky lid fall off because it was just held in place with small self tappers - time for the wall plug upgrade.

backyard engineering wouldn't be complete without dabbling in electronics.....Heres a compact power pack for kayak sounders that I put together a while back.....much lighter than traditional SLA batteries - only 500g, dimensions 188 x 113 x 47mm
IMAG0890.jpg The chinese 'blue brick' Lion battery has stated capacity of 9800ma/h but this is not true at 12V (probably closer to half or 2/3). Still I reckon I could get 10-12 hrs runtime on my lowrance elite 4 HDI, which is more than enough for my day trips. The whole setup, batt + charger, case, connectors cost me about $50. |

Steersy isnt the only innovator copping a hiding from copy cats this week.
If you take a look at my rod from 12 years ago and this recent AFTA entry. You'll be sure to spot some similarities. Admittedly I stole the idea for cutting up a fisheries ruler sticker from Nicko but he hasnt got any 12 year old photos - so I'm claiming it |
