Ahh cool - I thought the acetone wouldnt be able to get to the glue between the magnets - but i didnt try it - I'll definitely give that a crack when the next batch sticks

When the weather starts to chill and I have a few blank sessions in a row - thats when I do my best work - Plenty more to come in the following months

I also found this busted unit floating by the other night - I had the technology - so I re-built him.

A new custom clip lashed to the base and some aquarium tubing for the light stick

Some of your posts in the "jewfish at night on soft plastics" thread got me thinking about the way jewfish hit lures, and I came up with this after a little bit of trial and error. Might help my hookup rate, might not but at the moment I'm still looking for my first jewfish on a lure so I'll take all the help I can get. Got a few more ideas for various bits and pieces of tackle I'll post up when I get around to photographing them.

Yeah nothing wrong with having a tinker

I cut one of the hooks off my treble to make it a double. This just makes it less likely to snag on the bottom if all hook points are facing up.

Sometimes its good to get a feel for a place, if you havent fished it before. Run some lures you dont really care about through the area so you get to know where the snags are. Then you can run the good stuff through.

A crude texas rig made out of a bait hook and a ball sinker would be enough to let you know what the bottom structure is like. Just add a cheap plastic to the hook and your still in with a chance to catch a fish. That way you dont waste all your good lures and jigheads while working a joint out.

These are the sort of lures I'm talking about. I bought 240 of these for 5c each off ebay back in 2014. So I can loose a heap of these before its adds up to the cost of 1 squidgy.

And With a pair of scissors - you can vary the length and tail action

Or you could just buy a mask and snorkel and see for yourself - a bonus would be you never have to buy soft plastics again

I mean sure - you could get tangled up in line and drown - or run over by a boat - but check out all the cool stuff you could find

Thanks for the tips, good idea about using the texas rig with cheap plastics to work out where the snags are. As for getting the snorkeling gear on... I've seen and caught too many bullies in my local stretch of river to give that a go. Only got about half a metre of visibility at the moment after all the rain, so I'll run with that as an excuse too.

Yeah in the Yarra - most snorkelers die of ear infections before the sharks get them

Nice Bear - I've been taking it easy on the innovating front - but I'm always collecting supplies.

Its now "Finding Beanies on bike tracks" season in Melbourne - found 4 last week

So I decided to turn one into a neck warmer - Just chop the top off and bang - job done

I often wondered whether it was worth keeping a full set of replacement guides and rod tips at work. Now I know why I do it.

Found a busted surf rod on the way to work - Squashed rod tip - squashed eyelet and a cracked line stripper guide.

Took about a minute to cut up some ply with the jigsaw - about 2 mins to reshape the cracked eyelet with a rotary tool. 10 mins to replace the guides and Bang. Now I have an almost worthless surf rod back in working order
