Epoxy shrimp.
I've been playing around with this pattern for some time. It's a pattern that has been used with a lot of success on the Glenelg River at Nelson on the local black bream.
This one is tied on a size 8 stainless hook. The body is made of tan super hair covered with UV epoxy resin. The eyes are black glass beads, threaded onto some 30lb mono and then epoxied into position. The stinger hook is a size 12 Umpqua. The tail is made from two loops of 30lb mono. The antennas are made from 15lb mono. The legs are made from a very fine silicon rubber. So far, I've just tank tested the fly and it sinks as it should. Hopefully the local bream will take a shine to it. |

That is a really nice piece of tying/fabrication, great little glass shrimp.
Summer whiting on the flats here would love it

Brilliant work mate,
just curios about the hook pointed downwards, is that to get it to sink properly? and im hoping you tested it in saltwater for sinkrate |

Thanks mate. I left the hook pointing down because I didn't want to add additional weight to the fly and without any additional weight it will sink point down. I haven't actually tested the sink rate in saltwater as yet, but my 5 wt fly line with the highest sink rate is 6 inches per second and I'm sure the fly will sink quicker than that. Having the point down means that is will not be snag resistant, so I will run that risk. I have nearly always added a weed guard to my previous flies of this design, but on this one, I just forgot to include it. I don't think I'd be able to make this fly with the hook riding up as the body material would block too much of the gape of the hook, but you've got me thinking about how I could do it. |

Yeah its certainly a snag magnet, but a weed guard will certainly help.
cant wait to see this hanging of some monster bream or perch keep up the good work man. |
