Surf reel under 100 dollars?

Although it is not exactly a breaming related topic, could anyone recommend a reel on the subject?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Cheers,
Alex

I found a Daiwa Regal series going on special for under $100. Try asking your tackle shop if they keep it. Not bad for a 4 ball bearing reel though you can't really compare with something you pay $200 for in terms of smoothness but its decent. I wouldn't spend too much for a surf reel either because chances are the surf rod holder will give way after a wave breaks in and softens the sand and your reel will get dunked in saltwater and sand! When that happens, the reel's days are numbered!

spend an extra $40 or so and get an Okuma Eclipz, dont get the BTR versions either, too many moving parts on the BTR which means its hard to clean, these are the best Surf reel on the market for the price by far...

I also have an Okuma Futura and a stable of Alveys which are still exceptional reels after 20 or 30 odd years. Depends what you want them for but for tailor or salmon, particularly on bait, you can't beat an Alvey. And if you drop an Alvey the consequences are far less severe. Cheers
