Another Genius Wants Light BC Rod Help
G'day all,
Got a bit of a baitcaster bug recently, and have been sussing out the BFS spectrum of rods for light lure casting. Basically i'm looking at pairing a rod with a new Daiwa Alphas SV 105L for bass and other light work. Using it out of my Hobie so ideally 6ft6 would be the max length. I need something light enough to load up properly with 1/8th and under lures. Research so far has shown me: Majorcraft Volkey BFS (bloody hard to find these days though??) VKC-652UL Rapala Finesse Series RFSC642UL and 632UXL NS Black Hole Medusa MCF662l Td Commander Wild Cat (bit heavier) Black Label v2's in the 1-3kg range (crisp and stiff) Palms Molla MSGC 66ULXF Any info / experience / and rods for sale would be greatly appreciated. Gotta scratch the itch! Cheers Witha |

I was in the same boat 12 or so months ago.
I ended up with a Megabass HYUGA 64L and am more than happy with it casts better than the Volkey BFS models (I have the 6'9" BFS). Great value for a megabass and will cast the weights you are looking at. Also come in 1 & 2 pieces. Also if you can stretch the budget have a look at the T3 SV range of reels, more control over the Alphas SV as the SV has magforce cast control 3D and it works well. I had a chat to another member regarding the Megabass Hyuga and he mentioned it was a little to beefy for regular bass work, well any bass under 40cm which is probably the most likely encounter, Bjspinner what do you think?

Otherwise does well on larger flatties and bream. Loads up nice with that big bend and the Calcuttas do well. I seem to like the XT over the B however rotate both in use. Good investment and money well spent for the build quality.

I've been fence sitting on this topic for a while. Wouldn't mind a UL baitcast setup just for giggles but don't want to "invest" to heavily ...
I haven't felt these rods but the team daiwa ballistic-x UL 1-3kg caught my eye .... Not too exxy and I figured with a small bc reel It would work as a system ... No idea on reels though yet |

Volkey BFS
or try the Shimano Zodiac BFS Search 'ゾディアス 164L-BFS' or 'ゾディアス 168L-BFS', or if you want 2-piece -'ゾディアス164L-BFS/2' or 'ゾディアス 168L-BFS/2' on Global Rakuten. |

I'm another fan of the Volkey and also have it matched with a hotted up Calcutta 50.
I had the Calcutta laying around not being used, so I decided to upgrade it to BFS to get some use out of it. When there's no wind around it can throw SX40's 20m+ no worries.

What really peeves me off is people casting 10 gr lures off bfs gear and saying that theyre getting 20+ meters... sort of defeats the whole "System" & why that system exists.

I agree can throw above 5 grams a mile easy on most bfs reels, go down to 2-3 grams and that will test out your setup.
