Daiwa Services

Hi all,

I just got my beloved 2014 Steez 2508H back from Daiwa. It was dunk in salt water, I sent it in straight away and been told by Daiwa it going to be 8 weeks wait. Fair enough... After 10 weeks I received the reel with 9 ball bearings replaced, but it doesn't feel smooth as before...I thought the bearing need to smoothing...after spinning it for a combine of over an hour winding...it still feel stiff...guys please advise what I should do...

I love Daiwa reel for their buttering smooth feeling...now I lost it...this is something Daiwa fall behind Shimano...I send my Fireblood in for service, it come back with all bearings, pinion and gears replace. No charge...and it feel the same....wish Daiwa can take better care with their servicing department.

I own almost exclusively daiwa. They are beautiful reels.
Unfortunately daiwa service australia is terrible, an insulting joke.

Saw a job listing for their maintenance HQ recently, not surprised they are chronically understaffed, level of work is poor and over priced.

Better off in the future getting your reel serviced by someone like slazmo. You will get real time communication, quicker service, better quality workmanship and better value.

Let it all bed back in for a bit, let all the parts bed back in like the main and pinion etc and the greases smoothen out and do their thing.

If your still concerned, ring Daiwa back and speak to them first.

I've sent a couple reels back for services and although the time frame was a little in the slow side the reels came back feeling better than new and one of them a part was replaced under warranty which I was expecting to pay for.

I sent a dunked reel to Daiwa Australia and they quoted more than the replacement cost (over $200) to repair it. I got them to return it to me and I pulled it apart, cleaned it out completely, lubricated it and re assembled it. It now runs smoother than new and not one part needed replacing. I would not send a reel to them.

There is a difference between stiff and rough. If its stiff like you say, that is most likely the thickness of the grease used rather than something wrong with the reel. If its rough and not smooth after "being fixed" then you should send it back because its not fixed properly.

Better than new? Hard to believe that.

If a reel comes back better than new, there was something wrong with the new one in the first place.

I get what he's saying - I've bought a brand new Daiwa reel that had a pronounced click every handle rotation and sounded like it had grit inside.

So there can be room for improvement, even on a new reel

Lot of my reels, not just Daiwa, feel better than new after I give them a go over

Bc, spin, over heads, off shore spin. All better after a service, which is done fresh out of the box anyway

They've probably jam packed your reel with grease. I sent them a smooth 2004 tate years ago that needed a freshen up and it came back super stiff after a few month of fishing it got better and now (about 1.5years later) it's really smooth again. Slazmo is way better but he's not doing reels atm so maybe try Geneo Kustoms next time. If you're not happy ring daiwa.

Thanks for all the reply, I will try to wear the reel out. Hopefully it will get better...definitely never sent a reel to daiwa anymore.

What I think you have to take into account is volume that passes through their hands. Ive spoken to their head about this and he's working on it - trust me he's a good bloke and very understanding.

Each repairer has a set quota, each repairer is under the clock - each repairer doesnt get to speak to the owner of each reel and may infer what needs doing differently on a reel thats just gone to their desk with a very rudimentary note "has a ticking noise".

Who knows what mechanical apptitude each repairer from any of the majors have under their belts, who knows their backgrounds? Christ, I am not a ex diesel mechanic with 40 years of training or on the job expertise.

As I said before, as you would expect sending your reel to the majors you would expect the epitah of service for what you pay. However you infer the service quality on the basis of feel alone, what your reel left you to how it comes back may be quiet different - and hence the troubles.

Something I battle with on every service, I have given up on rotating gear set's on the basis of people wanting that same feel as the reel came. People want some form of "same" but better. And this is why I like to speak to people over the phone to get a feel of their claims to issues.

As my mothers knee surgeon said once "you cant turn sh*t into icecream". And then he persisted with the knee op and destroyed her leg with a cobalt alloy knee prosthetic...

Everyone has a different process - my process is exclusive to me, Daiwa's is to them as Shimano is also their's. No-one is perfect and no-one will ever be happy with anything than absolute perfection in some cases, and some of those people wont change one single part in their reels and expect absolute miracles.

Agreed...but if you are a major brands and as my brother put it the "best reel manufacture", isn't it a obligation to service your reels to up hold the brand? I don't know. I did owned some shimano before and honestly they have way better service department. I paid $270 for the service and I felt let down. Upon attempting to bed in the bearing I found the drag sticky. Open it up I found it all dry up. Honestly, would you look at the drag grease when you service your reels? I took my car to local mechanic for service, after the usual oil, air filter change and oil, he check my brakes, check my light, check tyres...even fill up my washer bottle...isn't that servicing is???

By the way Slazmo do you service magnetic seal reels?

At the moment he doesn't service . t303 is your man for replenishing magseal fluid if you want it in your reel.

Yes thats right. Taking some personal time off - have done a fair bit and neglected myself and my life.

Ill be back for sure. And with Magseal... Just kidding 😂

However for all you that are still questioning if its worth replenishing - simply no.
