washers and line

Hi all,

I should know these things, but reel maintenance is something that I've always been a bit afraid to fiddle with beyond cleaning them. Firstly, could someone explain how to use the extra washers that come in a little plastic bag with reels. I think they are to adjust the drag, but I really have no idea where to put them, or when to add them or take them away. As a result, Ive done nothing with them, but I would like to know when i should use them.

And if you thought that was a stupid question..... Ive just re-spooled a reel and looking at the finished spool side on, I have line stacked up at each end with a furrow in the middle, but Ive no idea how to correct this (see image). Ive taken it off and re-spooled and got the same thing happening so i assume I need to adjust something with the reel, but don't really know where to start. Would be grateful for any advice.

You'll have to physically make a bump of line as you start off on the spool by hand in the middle of the spool. About the same height as the depression you see there in your line lay.

Bit fiddly but the only way i know to fix the issue.

This happened to an old Shimano of mine that i started to run braid on.
