Triton 179trx thoughts!!!!

Hi guys,

So I'm hoping by Christmas time I'll be putting a deposit down on a new boat, I've been spending a lot of time researching boats online and I think i've decided on the triton 179trx. Does anyone have any reviews on this model?

not the same but i hve a triton tr-175 which i think is a great boat for a 17 footer. In it's category it has the most storage, biggest fuel and livewell capacity and it rides rough water really well. I have a 115 merc 2strk on mine and its rated to 130ho. its small enough to tow easy and i take it out solo often and no prob launching and retrieving myself. Im sure the new trx are great as well. i note theyre a bit longer 18' and typically come with a 115? Im sure it would be great though and plenty quick enough

Yeh I really wanted the 189trx with 150hp but can't afford or justify and extra $10,000 for an extra 35hp personally, my current tinnie has a 50hp so 115 would be a tad quicker still lol

Phoenix wicked skeeter in that size also good yammy Sho for the win one of the best engines on the market !!!!! Quiet and fast !!!!!

Phoenix is like a rally car
Skeeter is a bit more tame not as chimey

Storage wise both are awesome
Build Quilty both unreal

I would say in chop Phoenix is marginally better but not by much man

A cheaper option bit older the stratos 285xl for 18.5 footer man is awesome for its size storage wise and build quality is great also

I have a Triton 17 pro 2014 model, powered by a merc 115 pro XS. Does 85 to 88 kph, not much slower with full livewells and has the widest front deck for its size that I have seen. Ton of storage and great in the rough with the deeper v.

Not 100% sold on the Yammy SHO in salt water after talking to a guy from Yamaha about them. Not built for salt water at all. Unpainted block and nothing to stop corrosion from salt water. If you have one/get one you would wanna be on top of servicing and looking after it. Yamaha aren't even bringing them to Aus for that reason.

I agree with the Stratos 285xl.....Great boats!

I too have a triton 175 duel console that I bought after having a rough trip back across the lake from the Mitchell river to metung during a vic bream grand final using my old quintrex explorer and the getting the stuffing knocked out of us! I decided that if doing competition fishing I had better get the right boat for the job! with out getting into the commodore versus falcon war I am very pleased with the tritons rough water ability and it is not a slow boat by any means. after 6 years of ownership I am pleased with how it is standing up..... although there is now some very nice new boats around now with features not available when I bought the triton . I have a 115 optimax on mine and it runs as sweet as the day I got it. cheers chris.
