Getaway Outdoors Kayak Series Engel Round 1 RESULTS

Getaway Outdoors Kayak Classic Engel Round 1 results

53 Kayak anglers took off this morning at 7.00am from Bayswater to contest Round 1 of the Getaway Outdoors Classic Engel Round. It proved a tough day all round with only 21 of the competitors weighing fish.

Taking home first prize of an Engel Fridge Freezer was Graeme Kovacevich weighing a full bag of three bream for 1.485kg. A great effort on a very hard day.

Hobie Big bream was won by Barry Brownrigg 0.650kg. To the tune of $500 from Hobie.

A big thank you from the WAFM team to all competitors, we look forward to the next Yak round to be held on the 29th of March in Mandurah.

For the full story please grab a copy of WAFM - March April 2015.

Well done to all those that got fish,, another well organised tournament but very tough on the fishing front ,a shore basher using lures told me he had just caught a couple decent fish in the hour he has been at it,,i caught naught from 7am -1.30pm but my excuse is i did not want to put to much pressure on the fish population before the next boat tournament in April

Great wrap on Graeme Kovacevich kayak as pictured above i believe it was only finished the night before the comp,,i thought a shark wrap would scare the fish away, seeing Graeme's got the winners trophy guess i was wrong, maybe it scared them half to death and he plucked them off the surface and revived them in the live well ?

Good luck to everybody on 29th of March in Mandurah for round 2 Thats a state round i believe the 1st two or so that win will get a berth into the National Grand Final .

Would like to thank Ian and Nick for organizing and making possible another great event after last weekend's big success at the boat round - #1. Nothing like a yummy bacon and egg sandwich before setting out for a day of fun in the sun either.

Appreciation goes out to Jake for accompanying me back to the weigh in and not taking off on me during our decent peddle back, even though he knew it would incur a penalty for him self as well. We ended up judging our return time on his marathon peddling speed and misjudgment/fitness got the best of me.. All in all, It ended up being a great day, loved meeting and having a chat to a few people.. also great to put a few forum names to faces. It was and has been a pleasant experience with a great atmosphere and i'm sure that many new comers to competition angling like myself will be back for more in the future.

Bring on Round 2!!!

Congrats Graeme! Awesome effort and what a feeling it is to win your first event. You really earned it with a couple of nice fish in your bag on a day where the bigger fish were sulking hard. Especially upstream where I received plenty of reports of undersize fish plagueing the baits. For myself the undersize fish were even scarce!
Cheers to Ian, Nic and Richo on organising a great event and so too the sponsors. Looking forward to the mandurah event!
