braid getting old quick
Hey lads,
Dont ask for advice on gear too much however, Having alot of dramas with braid wearing out on me so quickly. within the last 6 months I have gone through sunline super pe, super egi, unitika pe .8 and now linesystems frog is really beginning a pain to cast esspecially after a fish. the fishing I do is not for the faint hearted. Heavy timber locked drag no room for errors. Have heard of products on the market that you spray on after fishing sessions, anyone else know of this? Thanks boys

I think Varivas does a PE Conditioner.
You dont have the line in a hot area or in sun do you? |

It may be because you aren't maintaining your braid well enough. Salt may have crystallised into the braid and hence made the line hard to cast.
Here's how I keep my braid in check. Run hot water over the line (tighten drag first). This dissolves the salt. How do you know you have dissolved the salt? Give the line a taste. If it's a salty taste, keep running hot water over it (Agitating it by rubbing the line helps too). If not, salt is gone and your braid will go the extra mile. Do it after every session and it will last for years. It's true, I have line from 2 years ago. I wash it like above and still is usable and trouble less.

Varivas Pe line conditioner will serve you well Cal. I have ran the same spools of Unitika .8 for nearly 3 years now and apart from a bit of colour change they are still in mint condition.
I run the line out 50m or so after 3 or 4 trips and spray with the conditioner.

Thanks for the tips lads!
I wont lie and admit that I am not the best with gear maintenance, will try the hot water trick tonight. Adam from fishin.com is organizing some spray for me also ![]() Cleaned my guides to make sure nothing was chipped or scuffed. Not having any problems with breakages larry, just that stunted cast that makes all anglers curse under their breath! Just wrote a note to put on my sun visor 'clean ya cotton'

Not that I've tried it but I read somewhere that running a cotton q-tip around the inside of your guides is a good way to check for nicks and burrs .... If any cotton strands are left behind it indicates damage to the guide.

If you are going through line that quick, I don't think its a maintenance issue. Nicks on your guides might be an issue, or the fact that you are fishing heavy structure and probably rubbing on said structure would be the number 1 suspect/culprit from your descriptions.

I sometimes just spray silicone oil spray onto my P.e lines and my line lasts a long time but maybe I don't fish enough.
