Used Fireline Exceed....Yup Help me pick a new one...

G'day guys, so when I upgraded my breaming outfit a while back to a 1000 sustain FE I chose to go from Sunline super pe (good line but wind knots and i wanted to try 4lb) and try out Fireline Tournament Exceed in 4.4lb. Well. After a few months its started losing its colour, it bites down into itself on the spool, and i've never had a braid break like it. Got REALLY tired of tying new leaders on snags. After learning the FG i got pretty annoyed that the braid would break above the knot. And it delaminates from itself at the drop of a hat.
SO. I need a new line for breaming. I've read a heap of the other threads on this but wanted to ask some specific questions as i start learning the PE system etc. In the past i've done it on pound rating, so looking for something in that typical 4-6lb. Standard shore based and yak breaming, also picking up flatties as I go. With the PE system i know that some rated at 0.4 or 0.6 will break far higher than 4 or 6 lb, and i'm fine with this. Not looking for the thinnest of the thin, just something comparable for good casting distance. I liked the thinness of the fireline, which on Paulus is at about 0.7 or so, but want a rounder braid as this was as flat as dental floss. Also; if it could come in 200m+ spools that would be great as I like using electrical tape onto the spool rather than backing and filling the whole thing up.
Any suggestions appreciated, or feel free to let me know what pe rating your using for what application
Cheers
Witha

I have heard a lot of good things about Daiwa TD Sensor Tournament PE and seems well priced.
I use Sunline EGI HG and it is fantastic but expensive.

Its really hard to find anything better than exceed for that sort of price.Just have to go for uncolored version(crystal).6 lb basic sunline is way too thick, visually look like 10lb and losing color as well.If stretch the budget twice, there are plenty of awesome jap pe around

Hi Mate,

I've used 3.3lb exceed nearly 2 years now and I honestly can't fault it. As far as the line digging in, I would say you need to add more tension to the line whilst spooling up in the first instance. As for the breakage issue, what lb leader are you using? I use 4 and 6lb leader and it rarely fails at the knot to the braid, more often then not the break is at the knot to the lure.

Yeah that's what i would have thought but I really did put a heap of strain on when spooling. Maybe i'll run it off and back on again. Using 6lb mate, and so far its always been the braid to fail. I used to get failure at the FC part of the leader knot leaving the braid part intact, now its mostly above the knot at the braid, i'll be having a few sessions this week if the bloody rain clears out and will be concentrating on line management. I do like the way it fishes, but just can't handle the breaking.

Would you mind importing then? If you like the feel of original fireline, then Duel Japan may have something for you.

Duel PE Mono and Duel Armored. I'm expecting a spool of each in the post this week.

PE Mono is not braided. It has unbraided PE strands in the line, but then the line is given a hard coating. It gives a texture like monofilament and it is very easy handling even while having the same diameter as most braided lines. Is as strong as braids, casts like braids while being easy to handle like mono. Durability ain't like normal PE though. But it's quite cheap being around $20 bucks for 200m. Has markings depending on the JDM application.

I bought this line because I'm a baitcasting newbie. I need something that casts and feels like mono, without the weakness and stretchiness of mono.

Armored I'm not sure, I think it's a similar concept but just newer. I think The Doctor has this line. I'll know soon anyways, will let you know.

Have a look on some Japanese sites, Plat has some mega sales on Unitika brands. But I source most of my stuff from Axiasports & Sanpei from Rakuten Ichiba.

Hey mate,

Try Stren Microfuse, I like the fireline exceed but only run it in the 11lb for the racks. I have Microfuse in 3 and 4lb and can't fault it!

Unitika shore game PE. Bloody good line for the price and comes in 200m spools. I've got PE 0.8 on one of my combos that I've been using lots latley and i did have one wind knot when the reel was over spoiled but since stripping the line off I Havnt had any issues. It's a nice light blue and has good markings every 25m from memory?
