HB rod up to $150 maximum

Maiden post - I'm a member on some other fishing forums but I chase bream 90% of the time and this place looks like an awesome resource. I've read through pages and pages in the 'Rods' section here, and there's a tonne of great info. My main issue at the moment is budget. There are some rods that I wish I could afford, from Majorcraft, Samurai, the Water Zombie etc, but it's just not the case!

I do most of my fishing from a kayak these days. Basically I need a new rod for hardbodies primarily, and topwaters for bream. It will also double as my blading rod in these colder months. Ideally I'd like it to be approximately 6'6, as this length is great in the yak and I really need casting accuracy. Another consideration is EVA grips, as it won't be getting delicate treatment. That, and a $150 maximum budget - help me out!

Shortlisted so far is the Crucis Aegis 6'6 - I played with the 7' version, but it felt a bit tip-heavy?

Cheers

I would recommend an Ecooda Black Hawk, great rod for around the $120 - $130 mark.

What's the taper like on the Crucis 6'6 and 7'? Are they the same? Thinking of buying one also

I couldn't go past a diawa itchy twitchy! It's an unbelievable rod that you can do just about anything with. It casts cranks better then any other rod I've used. I fish land based though and it's 6'10" so I don't know how that will effect you. It's got EVA's and is bang on $150 :-p

Thanks for all the suggestions guys - do all the rods recommended have the right action for cranking? Basically 6'10 might be alright but casting accuracy is very important. Keep them coming!

What's the Majorcraft Basspara like?

Ecooda blackhawk is a great rod

Pflueger Trion

Shimano Cranx

all of the above fit the budget, come in a range of models and are great value for money rods.

I found the 1-3kg Trion to be very noodly - maybe the 2-4kg is more suitable.

The Ecooda Black Hawk 6'10 1-3kg is starting to look attractive.

Hey mate,

The Pflueger trion is a great rod within that price range, the 2-4 is definitely better than the 1-3.

True that! I love my 6'10 1-3kg patriarch. Everything from hardbodies on the flats, vibes and 1/8th jigheads in the deep to 1/40th and 1/60th oz jigheads on boat hulls and pontoons. Great rods.

There's a few votes in favour of the 6'10 Patriarch XTR - not sure where I could get it in Sydney for sub-$150? Listings seem around the $199 mark. Otherwise the 6'10 Black Hawk. These two are at the top of the list from the feedback here! Any others I should look in to from other manufacturers?

Tapers a bit fast on em mate. For hards you want a rod with a much slower taper.
