Light Pelagic Spin Rod

I'm looking for a rod around the 8.5 to 9.5 foot mark for throwing 35 and 40 gram metals at salmon, tailor and small tuna from the rocks and beaches.
I've only done a quick search and 2 I've found are a Battler Shorehunter and a Lateo Pirate 90MQ. Both these rods are classed to throw just over 40g, so I'm thinking for better performance, something rated slightly heavier might be better.
Any ideas? Please keep in mind I don't want to go over 9.5 foot, so Seajiggers and other Lateos are out.
Don't really mind what it costs as long as it is the right stick.

Have a look at the various models of rods made by Yamaga Blanks. You will find them on the Plat website. I have a couple in the ‘Early� range of rods which I find are great for spinning for salmon along the Surfcoast beaches in Victoria. There are also heavier models listed.

Hi There, which Yamaga Early rods do you have? and what reel size are we talking about- interested in how you have them set up.
I do have the Daiwa Lateo 96ML and run a 3012 Certate for shore casting sticks/metals etc and its good enough but just under your 40g mark from memory.

I've currently got a 902 Coastal Spin which does the job well.
My wife likes this rod so I need another.
Just want to see what's out there.

I use a Penn Prevail 9ft 8-12kg and its pretty nice. quite similar to the turves in set up, but with K-guides.

have you looked at the daiwa seabass 96ml but its 7-35gram.
but the 106ml is a 10 - 40 gram.

ive used these rods for almost everything spinning for tailor, salmon, bonnies.

ive even tried spinning for Northern bluefin. there a jetty that i know of that they bust up around quite regulary the plan was to stand on the jetty and wait for them to bust up and cast 30 or 40 gram metals and if we hooked up jump in the boat and chase after them before you get spooled.

If you can find one, Daiwa used to bring in the Shore Jigging series from Japan about 2-3 yrs ago. There was a 9'6" 10-20lb 10-60g model that would be perfect. Had a go with one and it would cast 30-40g lures out of sight with hardly any effort. Beautifully made with Fuji SiC K guides. Think they were around $330 when they first came out. Seen a few still around but Daiwa stopped making them for some reason.

hese rods have a super slow taper...don't be expecting to lift anything decent up the rocks with this rod... the Daiwa battler would be the pic in Australia otherwise, as others have mentioned have a look at the Japanese tackle sites.

Another cheaper alternative is the stalo stick or the catana...these arent too bad for the price and do the job well.

It'll also depend a lot on what reel and line ya running?
It's a tricky cross of tackle in that field I reckon, you can go really heavy or silly light

Having a look on Plat, I like the look of the Morethan AGS Bluebacker99.
If anyone has one of these, I'd love to hear your opinion.
I'll be up for a new reel as well so that's got me thinking too.

Have a look on fishwrecked forum...there was a fella using a bluebacker on there...highly recommended it if i recall correctly.

Yeah, I saw that in The Doctor's thread.
Just wondering which one he has, the 9'9" or the 10'7". Both rods look to have pretty similar characteristics.
