Spare spool covers.
Hi all,
Just wondering, What do people use to store there spare small 1000 size spools in? I want some sort of case or pouch to store a shimano 1000 size spare spool in when im fishing. I want it small to fit in my rapala sling bag but must protect it from any bumps or knocks. Been looking at the shimano single neoprene ones and also the shimano twin spool holders, eva case, but not sure of the size of them externally. Also considered looking at a camera lens pouch in a small size. Anybody have any suggestions, maybe photos for what you use? Cheers Kelvan. |

Looking for something a lil thicker. lol
Im mainly going to use it for wading trout streams and hiking into places so the bags full of things that can scratch the lip of the spool as I maybe fishing for 10 hours at a time. Plus have the chance of slipping on rocks and falling into the water. lol |

I use a small pouch with a draw string and place them in old peanut butter tubs to give them a bit more protection. A 500g tub fits 2 x 25xx size spools. A 200g is perfect for 1 spool!

Oh didn't think of that. Small vegemite container, with some foam from clark rubber cut to the size of the spool perfectly, then the screw top.
Could be good, just thinking if I slip and it smashes. Ill look into that tho. Thanks mate. |

If you need something more robust - get some PVC pipe & fit screw cap at 1 end, you could then fit out with padding

Yeah, but after something small. Less stuff in my lil bag the better it is.
Can you get a screw cap for around 50mm pipe? |

Daiwa Spool case
This has served me well for over 6 years, great protection.
You could put the spools in small ziplock bags for extra water protection? Available locally from GOOD tackle stores, and online.

A post pack tube cut down to size works pretty well. Obviously it's not water resistant but you could probably get a dozen or so out of one tube.

One can get end caps for 50mm PVC tube, glue one end on and press fit the other end. A small piece of foam between the spools.

I use Swisse Vitamin empty containers or the small con)tainers in the lunch box section of the the supermarket. Small, round and a secure lid. I use a condensation sachet in each one and cushion them will cotton wool, make up remove wipes etc. The missus dont realise there missing

It's good to see we're an industrious bunch!! I think I've used pretty much all of the above over the years. I've got one of those daiwa spool cases like Mark M, that I use for beach trips or out in the boat. Otherwise a sock, or even a sock covered spool inside a plastic container stolen from the wife's cupboard. Next time your in the supermarket have a look in their container isle. Heaps of good, cheap gear. The ones with an o ring seal lid are great for most fishing and camping applications. Some of them may need a smear of silicon on the join of the seal to be waterproof, or gulp juice proof
