I like fish paddle tail patterns 80-100mm. My most consistent and the first i tie on is a 105mm pro lure fishtail in mangrove gold on a 5/0 jig head

Don't ever be afraid to use big lures, our biggest croc we lost boat side we guessed to be 110+ easy... The reason we lost it? It ate a 45cm flathead we already hooked up to. Bust out the big squidgies if you specifically target the big girls, always match the local hatch but. Don't fuss on size, if it's in their face and you move it a 70cm lizard will eats a strike pro micro vibe or 7" gulp jerkshad.

A good start would be either squidgy fish in 100mm plus sizes and 5 inch plus jerk shads
Try real aggressive whips on heavy heads, it sort of goes against what you learn when fishing for bream but alot of the guys in the know fish that way Pete |

Really - anything you can get to the bottom. My PB is on Squidgy Pro Fish 65mm in Grasshopper. The other thing is is the 5 inch jerkshads still catch the little ones - I've caught plenty at that 34cm mark on a 5 inch plastic.
So I agree with the above it's all about finding them. So from here I think you have 2 options: 1) Use plastics on that 2.5inch to 4 inch range that will catch a wider variety of fish and try to find where the big ones are. You'll still catch em. OR 2) Get yourself some REALLY big plastics that the small ones have no chance over. Two examples would be Gulp Nemesis 6.5 inch (which has an awesome grub tail and a fat body) or Gulp 7 inch jerkshad. Not sure how a 6 inch jerkshad would go, might still be a touch small, but you get the idea.

Fishing for larger flathead doesn't necessarily require large plastics.
Admittedly if you use a larger plastic it will keep all the small riff raff away and you will most likely get only larger ones but I rarely use anything over 4inches long. Regardless whether im using minnows or worm style plastics I rarely use big plastics. My PB was caught on a 4inch watermelon pearl gulp minnow and ive caught quite a few big girls on worm style plastics. One of my fave all rounders is the GULP 4inch swimming mullet in pumpkinseed. Technique i reckon plays a big part in catching the big girls as well as areas that you target them. Wwrk your drop offs during the day and shallow sandbars especially at first and last light Flathead sit on the bottom so in most cases there isnt a need to finesse fish for them so you can fish heavy for them. I mainly fish 1/4 ounce JIGMAN jigheads in 2/0. Try and work the plastic on the bottom with lots of smal lift/twitches with a few pauses rather then a big lift and drop. These methods seem to work well for me. Hope that helps Cheers Paul |

Biggest ive landed is 95cm and quite a few over 85cm and never had a issue.
Admittedly some of them i haven't been able to see due to them being very greedy and swallowing them too deep
