you will find them and any of the flats in the estuary around Mandurah even on the Mandurah forshore flat. just watch out for the seagulls, they love surface lures as much at the whiting do. any surface lure with work. sugar pens scum dogs or the pop dogs. hooch was my most productive colour.

Okay thank you
so there wouldn't be much point throwing a surface lure around the canals?

I have caught whiting in the canals by accident but would be much easier to have a walk on the flats out the front of the canal in the estuary. its only knee deep. from what I have seen, the whiting don't like surface lures if the water is to deep. have a look at Google maps and im sure you will find some spots fairly easy.

Any of the flats around goongoolup island etc there can hold decent whiting among other things.
I like to drift or just anchor up in the yak but lots of people walk the flats etc also.
The path at the end of that groin is normally blocked to vehicles & theres a new no car sign also now so your not meant to obviously drive out to the end.

there is mullas in the canals. not sure which will be bigger, the plague of blowies around your mulie or the swarm of mosquitos around your head. stick to walking the flats in the morning and arvo. you will get herring, tailor and the chance on a giant herring casting around the edge of the channels which you can walk to from shore. wear shoes unless you like feeding you toes to crabs.

get back crab!

some crazy guy we fished with caught these crabs by had when they grabbed on to his foot.

Interesting crabbing method, sounds painful....lol

Live bait is the way to go, stuff the mulies.
You will prolly get eaten before your bait anyway but as Mods mentioned....lol

makes no difference for time of day. the whiting will chase the lures regardless. mid day is lunch time and its hard to eat a sandwich and fish at the same time. the wind picks up in the arvo over summer so I like mornings if I had to pick a time. get out before every one else and smack a few. depending where you fish, people looking for crabs will walk right thru the school you have been trying to work out and you have to start all over again. tailor are more a pest than anything. they will hit poppers plastics hards halco twisties, mostly when you get bored and your casts stray into deeper water. you will think your on to a solid whiting then your line goes slack and your suddenly down a sugar pen. wear some good polaroid's and you will see the whiting sucking and swiping behind your lure then adjust your technique till one hits it. when you see a school of black dots move in from all sides. wind fast as you about to be mobbed by a zombie plague of Blowies. Im expect to see some pictures. maybe one might even be your new profile pic.

Like Bear I didnt comment because of the Perth Whiting Question .

Mods nailed it for Manduarh , picks some flats and stay mobile , tailor will rip you off in deeper water , fish surface lures pretty fast and watch behind , you can tell if they mean business and trick em with some twitch'n pauses .
Small hb's work when they get shy on surface lures........... any small hb around 30mm
Sharp hooks essential , assists optional but worth it , either way expect to drop as many as you catch , fish with next to no drag helps (you work that out quick)

I use small baitchaser rig hooks because I'm tight fisted and expensive assist hooks rust just the same as cheap ones when left unwashed like I tend to be in the habit of doing , they work well for me.
Use the wind , dont be put off by it , it's your best friend .

I'd start with the Mill area ....... study that google map
