8000 size reel
Don't usually use heavier spin gear, but need a reel to flick for hoodlums of the stones. Anyone tried the stradic fj 8000 in similar circumstances? Open to other suggestions of reels under 300 bucks

Stradic 8000 FJ - was the subject of a rebuild that some guy did over in the States. Basically put bearings wherever he could and so did the other guys following his rebuild.
He strongly stated that the end result was better than the Stella and far less costly... (somewhere in the multitudes of all those pages...) http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...w-1810278.html Last edited by SLAZMO; 11-11-2013 at 07:14 AM. |

The new Saragosa SW or a Thunnus Ci4 would do the job. Mo 25% off for 24 hours would put them at $215. Bargain

I did a bearing upgrade on mine, rate it as the best reel for the $$ on the market

Any of you guys that have mucked around with them know what kind of realistic usable max drag you can get out of an 8000fi? And will the bail arms put up to decent pressure? Fair call to compare a modded stradic to an 8000sw. Maybe with light line they would fish similarly short term but surely with heavier lines the graphite frame and smaller bail arm and line roller and gearing is a fair step backwards from a stella 8000. Would be sick if that wasn't the case cos I need another cheaper reel for a mate for stickbaiting kings and tuna on pe4! |

It ill do it fine, just not as long as a Stella will cop it for. I've run 50lb on mine and I feel with the drag locked the reel hangs in there ok. Running 30-40lb lines with appropriate drags will see it go the distance.

That is cheap! Too bad payday is next week. Hadn't looked into the thunnus, having baitrunner might have sold it for me for live baiting. But is it as tough as they say? And would i lose much castability over the fj and gosa? |

B.C.F had the 25% off sale last night during their Club Night... Too many people there for me to care about it all.
The Baitrunners either the OC or the Thunnus are exactly the same! I have the OC and its pretty good internally, better than the older model and the body looks the good. Using it for casting - nah. |

Cheers guys.
Have gone for the thunnus as in reality my casting rod is fine and this one will be pretty much a live bait rod for kings and jew. Couldve gone a cheaper baitrunner but i do prefer the thunnus handle and i have had good experience with the paladin gears...... Also its pretty haha. Will write a review here once i have nailed a few decent fish |

Mate thunnus is a great choice
I am a daiwa man threw and threw but they just dont really have a range of baitrunners like shimano so I got a thunnus 6000 is magic for live baiting and is yet to miss a beat has accounted for plenty of macks and a couple of great cobes already cant wait for macks to start showing ip on the goldy again soon |

The baitrunners need to be looked after - they are pretty complex inside and need meticulous cleaning because the springs are so so so small and fine and the internal drag is finicky and can be affected by grease ingress! I love my 8000 OC and within regards to price the Thunnus is just a mild upgrade to the OC, with the Ci4 body; whereas the OC has the XTG7 graphite. Either which way they're awesome! |

the old biomaster sw was under $300 from japan I think and the new ones are about $320 on plat Plus you have both a high gear and lower geared model to choose from, so might be worth a look.

best choice there... ive had the DL, B, OC and D series of the baitrunners. Sold all of them except the DL which is unfishable because the Thunnus 6000 I have just towers over the others in my opinion. For performace, weight, castability and line lay. Though for me the D model was a very good reel and probably the better way to go if you were going to have 2 or 3 baitrunners.
I've been trying to get a shop to get me in the Shimano Ultegra CI4+ XS-B 14000 and 5000 for a while now, no one's called back. Definitely worth getting if you can find one, 2 spare spools and 2 or 3 different size spacers. I think for the 14000 with the sleeves on it equates to a 3500, 6000 and 10000 size spool. Only about 550g too. |
