Shallow spool reels

Just wondering can you put a standard spool on a shallow spool reel.i was looking at an Shimano ultergra 1000s s I'm assuming s meaning shallow spool is it possible to replace the spool with a standard ultergra spool or it cannot be done.

Yep you can. But only if its the spool for that model. So if you have a 1000s model you can put on a 1000 spool for that model.

That changes with higher end reels though.

For the Ultegras, they don't fit after market spools (at least Yumeya). Has to be the original spool for the Ultegra model.
