2000-2004, 2500-2506-2508??

Showing my ignorance a bit here but can someone please explain why you would choose 2004's or 2506-8's over standard 2000 and 2500 sizes?
Break it down for me nice n simple please. I can be a dumb bas***t sometimes
Im asking cause I'm sniffing around for a third combo

The 2004 or 2506-8 size reels are made to be more of a finese style reel. If you go on to the Daiwa Australia website, it will provide you with plenty of information on which reel to chose for which style of fishing you are going to pursue.

You're not wrong there mate.
Apart from line capacity being less on the 004,06/08 reels as already posted they are more of a finesse style reel, this meaning that the drags are less therefore you need to do less adjusting of drag knob to get required drag pressure, ie - a 2500 may be advertised as having 7kg of drag and a 2506 may have 3kg so meaning the 2506 will be more accurate on drag settings with less adjustment.

I've seen the way you fish and finesse just wouldn't be your style.

In essence 2000 & 2004 and 2500,2506 &2508 are identical in every way except for the spool capacity and drag level. Choose 2000 or 2500 if you want versatility and the others are more species specific.

I know you've explained it to me a bit before but I was still unsure why you would reduce line capacity and drag pressure even if you wanted a more finesse approach? Wouldn't lighter line satisfy the requirements of finesse fishing. In any case, I think your right, mucking around with 00 numbers may be a waste of time for me Straight up 2000 it is I reckon

Basically, for bream I prefer a 2506 over a 2500 because I don't need a heap of backing to fill the spool.
Same with a 2004 over a 2000.
If you are chasing fish that take a lot of line you're better off sticking with a 2000 or 2500.
If I'm not mistaken Daiwas finesse spool numbers match the line they are designed for.
A 2004 holds approximately 150 yards of PE 0.4, a 2506 holds 150 yards of PE 0.6, and a 2508 holds 150 yards of PE 0.8. Give or take a few yards.

no need for a whole heap of backing is the main thing for me. also less weight due to less line on reel (probably not a whole heap less though !).

note the spools aren't always accurate on the line capacities anyway as line manufacturers don't really follow any 'diameter standards'

finesse drag is a load of crap to me cool marketing terminology though

a 2000 or 2500 will work just fine.

Ive got 2 shimano stradic ci4 2500's. They are the most versatile reels known to man. The 2500 weighs 200g. Will balance a 1-3kg rod with no dramas.
Ive got one filled with 3lb flouro and use it on the flats. Pulled two tings off the flats this arvo.... Sweet drag.

Other 2500 has 3lb fireline crystal, caught a rat kingy on it... No dramas. Fireline breaks well above its rating. Get some.
Spare spool 3000 size. 6kg fireline exceed. Use that for heavy plastics on a 3-5kg rod...caught a couple of jewies on it a couple of weekends ago. No dramas

You spend all your time in the canals perving through windows trying to spot old rich women in their undies... You should be fishing with an old Sedona 1000 and a shakespear kmart graphite special...

get it right... it was a sienna 1000 and a sicstik. Mind you, if the bail spring was still intact i'd probably still be using it
P.S. strap on a pair and start chasing ting with lures instead of copping out and buying nippers. The least you could do is pump your own!

2000 > 2004 Daiwa recommends you use a line with 0.4 PE diameter
2500 > 2506 Daiwa recommends you use a line with 0.6 PE diameter

I was under the impression the digits at the end was to show the spool could take 100m of that poundage in mono. eg a 2004 reel can take 100m of 4lb mono, a 2506 can take 100m of 6lb mono, 3012 = 100m of 12lb etc etc
