What to look for in quality leader material

Well I am about to venture out into the lure fishing world for Bream and Flathead in local estuaries. I have spooled the reel with 8lb braid and I need some advice on what is a high quality leader material and what breaking strain for both species.

Dave

Social fishing for bream I generally start of with 6lb. Go up to 8 if they are not picky or down to 3 if they are finnikky.

I think I am the only one here that uses Berkley Vanish (line) as leader - there has been a lot of talk usually bad for the stuff however has been going strong for me for the last 4 years or so.

Big W - $18 for about 300 meters of Vanish FC - I seriously cant complain. Still have 260 meters to go (approx) of each weight

If I had the coin to waste I would also fish FC Rock also.

I used to use fc rock but got recommended to try Toray 'Upgrade" havent went back since. It holds strong even after its been taken into the snags buy a big bass and all chaffed up.

Glenn.

Sunline V Hard. Much more expensive initially but has actually saved me coin now for 2 reasons.

1. I've been able to pull lures (treble hooks straighten) out of snags on 4 and 5lb leaders where FC Rock would've snapped. I've saved at least 5 lures. 5 lures @ $20 = $100. 50m spool of V Hard =$30. Easy to do the maths

2. It lasts that much longer than anything else. So you're not having to discard damaged or frayed leaders as often.

Can't see myself using anything else from now on.
