Samurai 201 owners
Ok guys I know how good these rods are and I have a 101 and am looking to get a 201. My 101 is pretty much a micro hardbody rod, question is what are you using the 201 s for eg. vibes, plastics, blades, bigger harbodies??

The 201 is a very versatile rod. I use it mainly for HBs work: 38-50mm lures.
It's a great all rounder rod. I would have used it even for plastics but there are better ones like a Starlo Stix Pro 731 ![]() The 201 is a gutsy rod that is capable of pulling good fish out of snags, for sure. Cheers, |

As Alex mentioned it's a great all rounder. That and my 302 are the best rods I own.

The 203 is a bit sloppy. I don't like it for a "twitch, pause" style of fishing. Hardly feel anything
![]() They are OK for cranking, but I don't do a lot of it...Not in Vic. anyway. |

I know this opinion is biased, but in my honest opinion I believe the Pflueger Patriarch 6'10" 1-3kg are much nicer in the hand compared to the Samurai 201. They are also considerably cheaper. Each to their own I guess.

I fish with Samurai 201, different Millerods and Starlo Stix Pro depending on application and situation. Nothing to do with the brand loyalty. You feel the Patriarch is better than a Samurai, so be it -nothing wrong with that. The OP asked what the best application is for the 201 and he didn't mention other brands, so your response is not exactly what he was after... And yeah, the 201 is good for blades as well Juzza, Cheers |

Thanks Alex, I was thinking of using it for small vibes & blades and larger hard bodies like double clutch or jackall chubby and smaller plastics. The 101 seems more suited to jades, ecogears and the like.

Agree...when it come to rods...everyone to their own. I used 101 for micro vibe, small 3-7grams lures...201 is pretty much sp and others...if you invest in 201 you won't regret it. And the 302 is another great larger sp rod I found...great to chase big flathead. 203 is little soft tip for mine liking. Having said that Luke Fishing Mission used 203 mainly for his fishing...(if mine memory is not rusty) so it all come down to personal choice.

Well in that case, my mate uses his for hard bodies, vibes and plastics on straight through fluoro, you could pretty much use anything you want, those faster action rods are pretty versatile!

I use my 201 for everything and it handles it all beautifully. It's a lot stronger and ballsier than I thought when I bought it but still able to flick small lures a fair way. I've thrown up to 1/4oz blades on it and some larger hardbodies too. You won't regret buying one, and if you want the ease of travel I can highly recommend the 201-2 (the model I have), CJ

I own a 201 and 101 I prefer the 201 for plastics and surface Walkers for bass, I find the 101 is to noodley for plastics but I like using it with tiny cranks chasing creek bass.

I had a Loomis DSR820 GLX and sold it when compared it to a 201 Samurai. Seriously, if I had a choice to keep any of my rods, I would keep Millers first and the Samurai 201 would be my second definite choice, they are so good
