420 explorer trophy

Hi all,
Looking to upgrade my boat from a allycraft 350 taipan with a 15 yammie. I have been looking around and have been particularly interested with the Quintrex 420 explorer trophy.

So I am asking for you opinion on this boat. Anything will be helpful.

Thank, Alex

hi mate, explorers are good hulls but if u can i would look around for a hornet. the hull shape copes with chop and rougher water so much better. theyre still able to get into skinny water and they retain good resale

Thanks for that, I have also been looking at the hornet range aswell but it seems for the same quality (age, motor, and condition) they are a lot more expensive. But I'm restricted to under the 10 k mark.

So I might just have to keep dreaming, until the right boat arises.

The Hornet gets through the chop a little better, but the explorer is certainly a more stable platform. So it really depends what you want. I have a 4.2 Explorer Trophy and it goes great with a 40hp.

What state are you in?

cheers

My last 2 boats were a '04 420 explorer trophy, followed by a '07 400 hornet trophy.
Both powered by a 30 yammer the hornet was way smoother and stable and handled some choppy crap very well.
But the explorer was faster and felt roomier due to its width. if you get a hornet be sure to get the 40hp motor.

Check out the 440 bass tracker sf from stessco, ive got one with a 40 Yamaha on it and rides well. All 3mm plate sides and 3mm pressed bottom wide gunnels etc. They had mine priced at $9990 drive away with a 30hp on it.

He mate, im a friend of Alex. We live in North Brisbane, ive got an explorer myself and love it. Dryish ride but the stability at rest is just incredible. makes out for a very nice fishing platform. We mainly fish in rivers, creeks but he would like something that he can take over to Moreton Island and come home without breaking his back

If you do decide to get an explorer trophy, and take it offshore, be very careful as my 3.95 has split right along the keel and is not covered under warranty. Infact, it's split 3 times now and is almost unusable.
