Loomis Confusion: 852 GLX's

Hi All,

First time poster here, figured you guys were the most gear savvy.

I'm after a new Jew on plastics rod and liked the length, weight and feel of a 852 Mossyback I picked-up in a shop the other day.

Doing a bit more research it seems everyone raves about the BSR852GLX but I can't find a local (Sydney) store with one in stock.

Landed up calling Shimano (distributors) and they advise they'd have to special order it in for me from the US as they have no stock. This didn't sound very convincing and the guy I spoke to didn't seem able to give me a firm, confident answer.

But, then noticed that the new JWR852GLX is available.

So:

1) How old are the BSR models?
2) Can I buy them in Aus still?
3) If so, anyone know where?
4) Anyone understand the difference in feel between the older BSR GLX and the newer JWR GLX?
5) Does anyone have the new JWR and can comment on it?

Any guidance or help would be very much appreciated

Cheers
Nibbles

Just recommending a tackle store in Sydney for him to try mate. Given they are not a site sponsor, not sure if its OK to publically name ??

I personally don't have any Loomis rods that I could recommend, well I have 1. It's a 12'3" float rod that I use for Luderick, so not really bream orientated unless you use it off the surf

852GLX denotes the length, power rating and blank.
so 85 inches (roughly 7 foot), power rating of 2 and GLX blank.

Info on power.

The BSR and JWR would have to do with what the rod is designed for. So even though both rods are "852GLX", they're probably designed for different types of fishing, lures, actions etc.

Thanks Will, intend to run pretty much the same set-up.

Why does the new one not compare?

So is the BSR discontinued in Aus?

Much appreciated

Thanks Chris.

According to rod descriptions they're for a similar purpose, just trying to figure out the difference.

I feel the grip just does not feel appropriate and the smaller guides also concerned me.. I can give you a name of a place that still have a rod in this model of stock, have caught some good jewies on this rod and is by far my most used rod on my rack!
