I was checking them out today. I'm in the process of paying of a Stella sw 4000 but am looking at getting a bait caster down the track. They feel nice in the hand and I like the shape of them as well. I'm thinking of the larger one and getting a two handed casting rod. What have you guys got these reels on ?

Anything really . Heavier soft plastics, larger hardbodies, blades ect and small live baits in estuaries. Flatties, school jew, salmon or just anything that turns up I guess. Maybe soft plastics off the rocks for reds on a good day. I live pretty close to some reasonably deep ledges with some weather protection either side. I saw one in the store today and just had a play with it and liked the idea of getting an outfit together. Getting the Stella first though.

How much are the Calcuttas?
TW in the US have the Daiwa Pluton on sale for $299. Its pretty much a Ryoga minus the handle bearings and spool clicker. Its meant to have stronger gears too. Might be worth looking at as well if its in your price range. |

The Calcutta starts at around $360 for the smallest one up to around $420 for the 400 size. I saw a Shimano Tranx today as well which is an oversized baitcaster with a single handle. Heavy duty reel. The Pluton is pretty heavy duty as well from the look of it. The $299 price sounds good though.
I'll have a good look around for a rod but might have to go up to Sydney. |

The 200 is sitting on a loomis cr723 gl3 running 30lb braid for flicking lures

Too easy mate
If you ask nicely, they might even let you put a few different combos together to have a feel for what you like ![]() Good luck with it

Daiwa pluton and 300m of 30lb samurai braid delivered to your door for $400 from TW as mentioned above.
You could order a light and m/h salmon casting rod from the states too and have everything from light estuary through kings and snapper off the stones covered. Wright & McGill have some nice sticks that are value. There's not really much available in the same style in oz, plenty of gear up to 7ft or so but gets pretty lean over that until you reach beach casting lengths. |

Thanks Smicko . I've pretty much got my mind made up on the reel and will go ahead with the Calcutta D 400 but it is hard to find a suitable rod around 7'6 - 8' . Been right through the Daiwa, Loomis, Shimano, Samiki and numerous online store sites and found very little. I was thinking I could go 7 feet but this could be a disadvantage shore based around the rocks. Thanks for the tip . I'll check the yank sites and head up to Sydney as well.
