Quintrex renegade 420
Hi has anyone got a quintrex renegade 420 or been fishing in one I am looking at getting a new hull for river / lake fishing and some light offshore when conditions are right . I have 6k to spent on the hull I have a 30 hp yammy in the shed to go on what ever hull I get also been looking at the 420 dory / Stessco 429 catcher fl but the renegade is on the top of the list so far what would you get for under 6k and having a 30hp tiller on it

Hey Oaks,
I have a Renegade 420 and rate it highly, it's a good solid boat, has a soft, dry, predictable ride thanks to the millennium hull and extra weight from the 3mm bottom and sides. Goes great in windy chop on Moreton Bay, seems the faster you go the smoother the ride, sits very level on the water, have had it out in a bit of swell of Bribie Island and it handles it well. Nice and stable at rest and plenty of storage space. Good honest capable boat that punches above its weight. Have heard good things about the Stessco Catchers also, but I don't think the ride would be quite as nice and would probably be a bit wetter due to the hull shape. Cheers, Al |

Oaks - 40 hp E-tec, gets along nicely, should still go alright with a 30 hp Yammy though. Which Yammy do you have ? 2 stroke or 4 stroke ?
Pookie - pretty sure the Dories have the Millennium hull now. Cheers, Al |

Yeah should get along fine with the Yamaha 30hp 2 stroke. I'm assuming you have a pull start motor so you wont have a starting battery sitting in the rear plus your motor would be much lighter than mine so you shouldn't have any probs getting up on the plane quickly.
Once you add a leccy and battery up front it balances the boat out really well and you'll get up on the plane even quicker. |
