recoils

Took the new DSR glx for a quick flick this arvo.
It casts well but the braid got caught up with the guides a bit which was a bit of a bummer. I'm not the greatest caster nor the worst but I've never got fouled up with guides in the short time I had this arvo as I've ever had with other rods. I know they make a bit of noise when you get a run but it didn't seem as smooth casting with Recoils compared to sic"s .
Is this normal ?
I didn't have much time with it as there was a bit of thunder and lightning around which got me out of there pretty quick.

Yeah, they're not as smooth as SiC's. The stripper guide being fairly close to the real seat doesn't help either. Just make sure your line is spooled really tight and use a slim knot from braid to leader - this helped me a lot. A reel with a smaller spool, like a 1000 sized Shimano might also be better as the smaller line wraps would travel through that first guide better. I use a 2506 and 2000 sized Daiwa on mine and it's fine. Not the furthest casting rod but it more than makes up for this with sensitivity

I have a 2500 Stella on mine but I've just bought a 1000 Sustain so will give that a run. I was a bit disappointed to tell the truth.
I read back on some comments about this rod and someone mentioned moving the first stripper forward. I was wondering if that might help but only got it on Friday so I'll play around with it a bit more.
I was even thinking a 2000 size reel might do the job.
I might have to live with it for now .
Thanks for the advice.

I had a TSR GLX with full recoils and a DSR GLX with full recoils and after 2 or so sessions I had it sorted, they definitely affect overall casting distance but if you run something like a slim beauty you will find less "clunking" through the guides. Also used to run up to 10lb and had no hassles with wind knots or guide wraps. Used to run a 2004 Exist and Certate and also a 2500 Stella with no issues. I preferred the 2004 size personally but its up to personal preference ultimately.

Cheers Ozzie
