shallow spools

hello everyone,

hopeing someone might be able to answer a small question...

Was looking at one of the Japanese tackle sites and they have the 2004 stella's.. Now you can get them in two models eg the 1000 and the 1000-S.. I Believe the 'S' stands for S-concept, part of which means shallow spool... What would be the difference between a reel wif a shallow spool and the same reel without??? Any difference to performance ? or does it just hold more line(the non-shallow one...)?
Cant afford one anyway, would just like to understand in case i win the lotto!! Any help much appreciated.... later

tim

my understanding of shallow spool reels is

a) These reels a generally used for light line fishing. Such lineshave a small diameter...a shallow spool reel allows you to get enough line on the reel without the need for loads of redundant backing.

b) allows the manufacturer to have bigger drag washers
