slim beauty not impressed :/
Been using the improved albright no dramas but since other members rave about the slim beauty I had to give it a go. What I use -10lb castaway braid and 5lb rock fc. The issue is 4 times out of 5 tests it will bust at fc end ie. the double overhand knot that is formed at the start. What was worse was that it failed on me during during cast. Anybody have this problem with the slim beauty?

I've been using a slim beauty for a couple of years or so and it has never let go unless I've pushed it too hard.

I'm not a fan either. Randomly snaps at FC too.
Stick with improved albright or FG |

I've never had a slim beauty randomly let go at the knot. Only time it's ever broken at the knot is when I've been snagged up and I've popped it deliberately

I've never had a slim beauty fail on me at all but I have found the improved albright to be stronger.

I tried it with nanofil and it was useless. Failed everytime. With 6lb super PE, 6lb spiderwire code red and 6lb suffix performance its worked fine for me. Everynow and then I have one fail at the leader connection - usually when its been used for a few sessions and I haven't changed it. Its a real DohDohDohDoh when it happens on the cast - especially with sinking lures. I should look into the improved albright - better knots can't hurt anything. Crusty

Chances are it's your tieing that needs work!
Slim beauty is excellent. Got to make sure the wraps form nicely. At the end of the day you need to use what works well for you and what you are confident in ![]() For the light stuff i cant go past the slim beauty and in the heavier stuff the sebille knot is a winner.

The thing about the Slim Beauty is it needs to be tied 100% right or it's just going to pop in the smaller stuff that us bream fisho's use. It's not a Knot to rush, take your time. With the smaller stuff I don't go back up the knot, double granny in leader, let it bow into an 8... leader through one eye then back out the other side of the 8. 15 turns down, back through the twists eye and bingo... even pressure on both main and tag is key.
You probably won't understand that, i'm very poor at explaining things! lol I have 100% faith in my slims, I've locked drags up fishing structure with 4lb and have had lure knots go before leader knots. |

you using the improved slim beauty and personally love the knot its all i use now and have never had it fail on me.
The only time it breaks is when lures are snaged and I'm really pulling on them but even then the hooks usually bend before the knot fails. After each session I test how strong the knot still is and with 10lb castaway and 6lb fc rock I can barly break it with my hands becasuse it will cut in, I need to wrap the braid end around somthing to snap it. Its a great knot I usually do like 10 wraps up 10 down but I vary that a little but if your experienced with it you know you've tied a good knot. Last edited by redfinfisho; 24-01-2013 at 03:19 AM. |

I'd consider my knot tying to be pretty good. I've assessed where it fails and it's because the double overhand knot is forced open from the pressure exerted by the braid main line. I do like the slim beauty on the fact its slim but it's quite a weak knot in my opinion so far. Has anyone invented an improved slim beauty?

Ive tried a fair few knots over the years. In my opinion there is only one knot to use and thats the Slim Beauty. Never ever had it fail yet. Best Knot going I think. Its weird that your having a problem. Maybe your not quite tying it 100% correct ????. Something dosnt add up.

Like others have said make sure it wraps evenly. This is the most important part and if you tighten it up wrong it won't be as strong. Try a uni or locked blood knot for the braid they work well and are a little easier instead of wrapping it up and back.

i think crusty is spot on with the thin diameter of braid cutting into the fc- i've just retired my 20lb cast away due to knots breaking exactly like your mentioning & gone back to fins
