Which reel for Gen Black ''itchy twitchy''

Hi Guys,

First time poster so gday to you all. im looking at adding another combo to my quiver and have already bought a Daiwa Gen Black 'itchy twitchy'. i think these rods are great value for money as i already own the 2-6kg 'wild weasel' and 4-9kg 'swamp donkey' (gotta love the names). Im after opinions on whether a 1000 sized reel will be too small and if any of you guys have these rods what reels are you using. Will be used for SP fishing on the local flats and up the estuary.

Thanks.

Hey mate, 1000 size reel is fine for the itchy twitcy. 1000 size is lovely and light for all day casting.

Hey mate,

I'd personally go a 200X sized Daiwa, just has that little bit more versatility when hooked onto a bigger fish.

What price range were you looking at?

I'm looking at getting one of these rods and matching it with a 2000 Daiwa Freams or a 2000 Shimano Stradic. They are nice light reels and I reckon would go nicely with the Gen Black

I initially had a 1000 FJ Stradic on mine but have recently replaced it with a 2500 Rarenium. Both reels weigh the same but I felt I was getting more casting distance with the larger reel.

I run a Laguna 2000 on mine till I can afford a 2004 caldia. lovly and smooth for such a cheap reel and very well balanced.

First welcome to forum mate its great place with great people, i reckon you should just take rod to a local shop and try couple of different size reels on, what is heavy for you might not be heavy for other members, but I'll go with 2000 size reel.

Cheers
Ash

Thanks for the reply lads. Much appreciated. Took the rod down to the local and tried a few different setups and ended up walking out with a Stradic ci4 2500. Very light for the size and it feels great in my hand. Good a good deal on the price too which was a bonus. The black on black also looks the goods.
