Building The Ideal Small Bream Boat

Heys guys

I lost my interest in fishing abit over the last year but after spending 2 weeks in Forster, i'm back to how i was before and feeling better then ever about fishing. I went into a tackle shop today for the first time in about a year and bought some new owner trebles and spilt rings to redo all my lures and a few tackle boxes to organise all my lures and some fresh spools of light fluro leader.

Anyway now that i have a car and can tow along with a full time job and a savings account, i thought to myself 'it's time to upgrade the tinny' to something more suitable for Estuary lure fishing, something with everything done probably. I've prices up a few hulls (Brooker 395 Saragossa, Quintrex 390 Explorer, Savage 385 Jabiru and a few others) and after looking at them, comparing the prices, i've settled on a painted 399 Stacer Proline. I'm planning on buying the boat hull and trailer first and decking it out, and when the savings account allow throwing a 30HP Yammy on the back. At the moment i'm planning it out and need help (yes i've read the other post on this forum haha)

Anyway, basic plan atm is front casting deck, middle raised floor and back casting deck. 20L plumped live bait tank on the left side (love fishing with livies some days) and 2 batteries on the right side to power everything. 54 watersnake on the bow, cheapo sounder on the casting deck, good sounder next to me on the seat, and up the front the fuel tank with some other latches for life jackets and storage etc. Is there anything else i could throw on ? hows the plan sound ? i don't think i've seen a rod locker on a boat this size but would it be possible ? maybe modding the seats, i'm not sure, but i'm sure i've left some crap out.

Anyway, any input is appreciated. I'll be posting photos up as i go

Cheers

hey mate, keep the weight down as much as you can with all your flooring and batteries. you dont want a sluggish boat. i would also suggest spreading the distribution of your batteries or ideally keep central to ensure the platform doesnt lean. i would also suggest placing your fuel tank at the rear of your boat. good luck

Have a squiz at the abt guidelines, if you intend to fish them. There's a minimum size for motor, boat length, live well size. As for the rod locker, depends how long the casting deck is. You could always fit vertical holders. Not as neat and tidy but it's an option

I would be leaving the fuel down the back close to the motor and put a larger live well up the front.
Keep the fuel lines short means less chance of something going wrong with and if something does it will be easier to find.
The advantage of a larger well, say 60lt + is that it can double as a kill tank or an esky, this will save u room on the deck of the boat.
I have a 4.35 Alleycraft, so its only 350mm longer than what ur planing to buy and I was able to fit a 130+ lt well in it and u hardly notice it when its full.

Hi

After just finishing decking out a small savage 355 I would have to agree with weight and balance. After trying to keep the weight down as much as possible I ended up-grading to a bigger outboard but as you are looking at a 30hp and if you keep it sensible should be ok.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing this project move along.

Awesome stuff guys. Thanks for that. Yeah I wouldn't mind fishing comps with it if I get good at Breamin ! Which is my aim.

The 30 is max so I thought it'd be a good match. Can get a yammy 2 stroke for 3 grand

My tinny going up for sale this week so I can get this project rolling. I'll use this thread as a build thread

• BREAM boats must be 3.7m in length or greater. Horsepower and beam must be
sufficient to plane the craft with two anglers and full livewell/s. 20hp is considered the
minimum to achieve this. All engines must be fitted with a kill switch and safety lanyard.
• All outboards must not exceed the maximum horsepower rating stipulated on the boat's
compliance plate.
• Boat drivers must wear their engine’s safety lanyard strap that connects to the kill
switch at all times while the engine is running. Additionally, all competitors are required
to wear a PFD Type 1 while the boat is planing. All jackets worn must comply with
required standards as outlined by the relevant waterway authority.
• All boats must have a minimum 60 litres of live well with an aerator or recirculating
pump installed and functioning. Live wells must be insulated if above deck, and no Nally
bins, garbage bins or fish tubs will be accepted.

Should be able to tick all them boxes if i want to fish an ABT comp one day

Well i went for a drive down the coast and got some prices while looking at boats:

390 Quintrex Explorer is $5000 painted on a trailer drive away
399 Stacer Proline is $4400 painted on a trailer drive away
399 Stacer Proline Angler (all the goods) is $7500 painted on a trailer drive away
385 Seajay Nomad is $5,030 painted on a trailer drive away
Savage 385 Japibu is $4900 painted on a trailer drive away
395 Brooker Trekker painted on a trailer is $4500 drive away

Got a price list for extras on the Quinnie so i'm gonna use it as a rough guide on the Stacer. Thinking of the following extras:

Side Decks - $500
Truster Plate - $250
Side Pockets - $100
Transducer Bracket - $20

So for $5270 (only around $200-300 then the basic Quinnie, Seajay and Savage i should have an awesome bream boat to work with and hopefully comps to fish.

Priced up outboards

30 Yammy CV - $3000
30 Yammy 3 Cylinder - $3700
25 ETEC (power tilt model) - $5500
30 Yammy 4 stroke (power tilt model) - $5800

Hmmm.. well.. might look for a second hand 30 four stroke or ETEC with all the goodies like power tilt and trim..

This is gonna cost more then i expected anyway, stay tuned for the progress. Waiting for the tinny to sell and seeing how i go about ordering the hull

Yeah mate but none of them really fill the needs of what i want. Plus it works out cheaper to get everything brand new because my dad knows a welder that will weld for $100 and he can get marine ply and alloy for free so to do the whole decking it'll cost me around $250 (welding + carpet) and the live well can be done myself we've done similar on dads bigger boat (live bait well, same concept kinda)

Found a second hand yammy for $2k, so if i can pick something up like that, boat + motor + trailer will be just over $7k, will need the Motorguide from America for $650, sounders will be around $1k for both, i think i can get away with everything for under $10k, not bad really. I really just want the boat decked out the way i want (side decks are rare on secondhand Prolines) plus it's gonna be a fun project to work on, something to look forward to after work
