shout out to a rod builder need help :)

iv currently got a big chunk of cork taken out of the forgrip (front grip) of 1 of my rods and its very ugly what would u suggest to fix this problem? and if i remove the whole forgrip completely will this affect the rod in anyway?

basically haveing like a skeleteon style handled foregrip? and wat would be involved in doing this?

This would be a pretty difficult fix IMHO. The guides would need to be removed to replace the grip. Would have to be really worth doing to fix that, and if its a rod that really needs doing, then I wouldn't be taking guides off.

not keen on takeing the guids off, i was thinking of cust removing the forgrip somehow and haveing no for grip? that i can live with if its possible? and what are the steps in getting that off? slowly with a stanley knife? will the blank under the grip be ok or will it need to be resealed?

That will be a huge pain in the ass to do, imo replace the lot or leave it as is, or another option maybe buy some tennis grip tape and go over the grip with that.

If you did manage to remove it without damaging the blank i would suspect that there would also be left over glue on the blank, so something else to think about.

How big of a chunk?
Post a pic so we can see what we are dealing with.

A couple of options that come to mind
1. There is no problem with taking the foregrip off - although you may need to reseal the end of the reel seat. Might look ugly though.

2. If its not a huge massive chunk then mix some cork dust (get a cork ring and sand it to create sawdust) with PVC glue to make a putty and fill the hole. Won't be pretty but it will be usable.

3. trim off the existing fore grip - being careful not to damage the blank. Buy a new foregrip. Carefully cut it in half length ways. Using a round file and sand paper shape the centre section so it fits your blank, go slowly ensuring a perfect fit. Glue on and tape up tightly with masking tape while it sets. Take off masking tape sand off any excess glue. Will have a split but won't be too bad.

yea cheers for suggestions guys. im kinda thinking of just very slowly and carefully removing the fore grip completely then maybe with a fine sand paper removing the excess glue and getting it resealed, hopeing thats not to ugly lol.

You could fill the hole like Crusty said, then put some heat shrink rod grip over the cork grip.
Its big enough that you can slide it over the butt end and shrink it with a hot air gun.
Most large tackle stores stock this stuff.
Do the lower grip as well and it will look real sexy.

What about cut/clean up the chunk.
Glue another bit in and Then have it sanded on a lathe back To shape
Or even hand sand carefully back into shape

I bought mine at my local tackle world.
All the major tackle and rod building sites on the net should have it.
