Power pro v Fins Original PRT in 15lb

Hi guys

I'm putting together a heavy sp outfit for targeting jewies and smaller pelagics land based and I came across the 2 braid lines mentioned in the subject.

I wanted to check if you guys had any experience with these and if one is better then the other?

Price wise I can get both for around the same price

Any info is appreciated

Dario

I've used both. Fins is one of the worst braids I've even used, it's ridiculously thick, becomes water logged, and frays really easily. Power pro isn't much better. Go buy a spool of daiwa shinobi. It's the best braid I've used under $50.

Do yourself a favour and take a look at Sunline Super PE.
Good performer and great value for money.

I'm running 6lb sunline super pe on my bream outfit but does not come in 300m spools in anything under 20lb breaking strain.

Then buy the 20lb. It's still less than half the width of 15lb fins.

Any reason you want to put open weave braid on a spinning outfit?

I must be a rarity
Fins all the way for me. I nearly bought power pro once, but I got hold of some fins metered 80lb braid, still waiting for it to arrive from the states.

Never had a line capacity problem with fins, ties well, all the good stuff

I wouldn't be concerned with water retention on 20lb line and larger lures

Had water retention in 4lb . You need to look up the actual breaking strains and diameters of fins and compare them to lines like daiwa shinobi. Last I checked 4lb fins had an actual average breaking strain of 18lb. If it was 6lb, or even 10lb I wouldn't really care, but almost 20lb? It's ridiculous. That's also what's behind their "never breaks at the knot" slogan. It doesn't break at the knot because it's about a million times above it's rated strain.

I can't see a bad side to those breaking strains?

Did you still catch fish with all that water in your line?
Did you notice it at all?

Honestly, I have never noticed water retention or had a problem with it, and that's with pooh loads of heavy braid out in the blue

They come hand in hand with thickness? Which in turn reduces casting distance, accuracy, sensitivity as well as capacity. You can literally fit twice as much 6lb super PE on a spool as you can fit 4lb fins.

I had to take it off my spool because I had it wound on nice and tight, like you should do with any braid, but after a while it ended up swelling and caused my spool to bulge, resulting in the spool becoming overspooled which started giving me a ton of windknots.

It took a while. I had it on a 1000 stradic which didn't help. Still got 10lb (30lb) on a 4000 stradic ci4 actually. Also, probably not as big a deal with heavier outfits but is very noticeable when breamming, are your leader knots, which are a lot thicker with fins. And it's also a DohDohDohDohDoh to tie a slim beauty in 4lb leader.

Super PE, can't beat it unless you spend the dollars. if not than power pro. Fins is like rope. 15lb would be close to thickness of a VB tinny
