Best rod for $

Guys,

With Christmas coming up its time for me to write my wish list. Top spot this year will be a rod.

I was wondering if you folks could recommend a few rods for me to look at? Specs: it really needs to be a 2 piece, weight rating 1-3 or 2-4, must be able to flick light jig heads and a good range of hard bodies, ideally I would like a cork grip (fly fishing background dictates) and lastly it can't break the bank of Mum and Dad so $250-300 max. What's out there for me?

Cheers
Liam

-Shimano tcurve tseries - either 702xl or 662xl.
-Daiwa tourney bream specialist. Have a look at these, very nice, but have Eva grips.
- nitro powerbream finnesse. You will probably love the cork on these, and they are a nice rod. Felt a few, and want one!

Do a search on these rods, and it will help you decide!
Decisions decisions!
Have fun!

Diawa Generation Black rods are the best value rods i have ever come across, you can get both 1-3 and 2-4 for $300.The only downside is the split grip(i too like full cork handles, fly fishing background),the blanks remind me of the first time i held a G Loomis IMX.All my rods are Loomis but i am pretty sure i will be getting a few of these very soon.

Nitro ultrabream finesse is what i have, but keep in mind they also have the no questions asked warranty, where you pay $79 now per broken section and get a brand new section to replace it.

Lox Yoshi ultra light... Great value for the $ and looks awesome. Don't worry about the tip breakage (think this was more of an issue on the old model), I've thrown mine around a bit on the yak and haven't had any problems (few scary moment fishing under wharves). Also have a $80 (I think) no questions asked breakage replacement policy.

If you have been a good boy throughout the year and you helped Father Christmas out with a little savings you could get a Loomis SR842-2 GLX for $350. Would be a nice present. Good luck with what ever you get. Regards. HBt.

At $300 max, hold out for something special secondhand, maybe save a little to add to the kitty!

Gloomis SR842-2 GLX gets my vote if your willing to stretch your budget a little. If you want a rod that picks up subtle bites and transmits them down the blank to your hands as soild thumps, then this is the rod.

Something secondhand being sold for a fraction of its brand new price will always be the best value for a rod. Going price for a used GLX rod is somewhere between $250-$300 and provided the blank isn't damaged, it will perform as good as a brand new rod but without the price tag. Or you could get something that would cost $250 brand new for around $150 and have heaps for lures, line etc..
