Can you buff scratch on reels out?

got a small scratch on my reel on the body, its small but it's enough to bother me. has anyone tried to buff a scratch on the reel out? will it work or will i just tear more paint off?

If its gone down to the metal i dont think any amount of buffing will work, if your really fussy i would find the same paint colour, apply it, then a light sand anywhere from 1500 to 2000 grit then buff it.

Car polish should go OK.
Just be careful not to over do it.
I don't imagine paint on your reel is anywhere near as thick as whats on a car.

What reel?

If its a magnesium body be very careful.

Have you tried those magic pens they show on TV for fixing scratches on cars? $30 from Big W - comes with a big "as seen on TV sticker"

I haven't tried one yet - but the theory looks sound as long as you have only scatched the clear coat.

If you do try it let us know how it goes - I don't know anyone who has used those pens yet.

I reckon if you can see black - then your seeing through the silver paint of the reel (unless your just seeing dirt in the scratch). Buffing won't fix that . It would likely make it worse - ie you'll end up seeing more black. With a car you can buff out a mark in the clear coat, but scratches into the paint won't buff out, go to far and you'll just see metal.

I'm not an expert on Zaion but I think its a carbon fibre material in a resin. That would make its most likely colour black.

Sounds like it needs a touch up paint, not buffing.

If you were going to do anything at all that is. I've gone down the path of trying to touch up scratches before though and it always ends up snowballing.

Yeah me too.
Most of the time the touch up looks heaps worse than the scratch.
If zaion is a carbon based material, I guess corrosion isn't an issue. Am I wrong?
Maybe a clear coat of something like nail polish just to seal it.
