Chip on spool?
Due to some stupidity by myself I have chipped the paint in the spool of my reel.
When casting the line is getting caught on the chip and is reducing casting distance. So it is rather annoying. Attached a pic that explains exactly where I mean. Not sure what I should do, sand the whole spool? forget about it and buy a new spool? reel is a ci4 by the way. |

Personally I would be more worried about the line abrading/fraying because it is hitting the chip, than casting distance. You could sand it back smooth - but I'd remove all doubt and worries and get a new spool.

can't see anything going by that pic mate ..
but i know what you mean, so just get some wet and dry sandpaper .. use 800 grade. all good bar the part that's going to not have any paint (and chip) due to being sanded off

Ordering a new spool now, might try and save the old one with some sand paper though.
Cheers guys |

show us the damage scissors ... we'll let u know if it can be saved .. a scratch on the spool can be saved quite easily .. but if it is a big ass chip .. a new one is the go

I fixed the same problem with one of mine but can't quite remember the first part of the process. I either used arildite or metal putty first of all and then I polished it down with my Dremel tool.

Get some cheap nail polish to match the spool lip colour Put blob on a piece of shiney card Use a very sharp toothpick to apply the nail polish to the chip Let it dry between layers if you have to build it up to fill the chip/s When finished it should be ever so slightly proud, let it dry hard Change out your line for some cheaper/coarse braid (fireline )Weight the line and do a 100 cast & retrieves The line running over the spool lip should gradually level off the repair You can then polish it if you like with some toothpaste on your fingers (shouldn't take too much of the anodised colour off)

It will never be as good.
If you can afford it, buy a new spool. Should cost around 40-50 bucks.
