Here's a classic

Spent the weekend in Sydney at the hobie comp at Narrabeen lakes...cause it's so far from Portland to sydney, I decided to drive to Melbourne and fly to Sydney. All went well until I got to the airport and checked my baggage...the bag was ok but the rod tube was 1cm too long to be carry on so it had to go in oversize. So the rods were handed over. Got on the flight and arrived in sydney...got my bag and went to oversized luggage to collect my rods...40 minutes later no rods...made them check the plane and out the back...no rods...got a bit savage...the chick says "Oh they went on Blah Blah Blah flight to Brisbane. Got a bit more savage but it was'nt her fault...Fished the first day with borrowed rods (thanks Boys) and had a crap day but the airline came to the party and couriered them to me on Saturday night...Had a much better day on Sunday and finished 14th

Every anglers worst nightmare!

Glad to see things picked up for you at least.
I always thought taking rods on carry on was a no no, good to see you can do it. Did you enquire about it before hand? Would make some of those cheap flights with only carry on available a little more enticing!

Thats ridiculous, it happens far too often as well.

May I ask though what airline you were on to allow you to carry on tubes?? I went to take a couple of rods back to Canberra with me and I was told i couldnt carry it on due to being a bomb hazard (which is ridiculous considering what my job is :/ ) and it was going to cost over $60 to check it in, worked out cheaper to courier it express and i had it in 6 hrs after when i was supposed to.

Some airlines really piss me off haha

always a bugger when this happens, I flew to Darwin with the rods a while back, rods were OK to go hand luggage from Melb to Darwin. when we checked in for the return flight, told that our rods were a dangerous item and not able to go hand luggage so they were checked in with "fragile" stickers plastered all over the covers. flew virgin both ways!!! no consistency.

good that you got your rods and not lost in space Clis, well done on the 14th

Can anyone tell me what the maximum length is for the oversize now with Qantas? I have a feeling they dropped it to 183cm which is not good for my next trip for my one piece rods if that's the case.

Thanks for the thoughts boys...yes it could have ended really badly but I got em back so that was good. I've decided to invest in three travel rods to use when I have to fly next (could'nt bear the drama again)...does anyone have any thoughts on the shimano raider 2-4kg travel rod or the okuma 1-3kg travel rod...I'm leaning towards the okuma because I prefer 1-3kg's. the raider is 7 foot which is better and the okuma is 6'6...Would love the nitro's but I think the managing director would have a fit.
