Only just getting into cranks. advice?

Hey guys,
I have been targeting bream for a while now on plastics, blades and surface but have never really had a go at using crank baits, minnows, and jerk baits for them. I won't really ever use them deep but rather above weed beds, in snags, and any other areas I need to look for that might hold bream.
Lure choice? I am going to stock up with some crankas, camions, atomics, 3b fatdogs, and other types of cranks... any other ideas would be appreciated.
The retireive? of course everyone has their different retrieves but what would generally work best over weed beds and structure similar to that? roll, twitch, pause, roll twitch pause? How long do I pause? subtle twitches along the bottom?

I have never caught 1 bream on a crank or anything similiar to that so any info and advice would be appreciated!

i dont really fish anything deeper than 1.5m with them, most of mine dive to 2-3ft. slow retrive, pause,twitch,slow retrive. bit of s factor if you need a confidence booster. ive had a few bream hit them a few seconds after they land so i like to hedge my bets and let them sit for about 10seconds before starting my retrive

Thanks JIM1. I wouldn't really throw anything deeper than that as well, rather plastics or vibes/blades.

get your hand on sum crank style lures (jackall chubbies, berkley fat dogs, atomic cranks, crankas etc etc). slow roll them over weed beds with very light leaders, i generally fish 2 or 3lb fluoro straight through as u will get waaayyy more bites. its a great way to cover a lot of ground and once u get a few you will be hooked.

ive had more luck with shads(in perth) but i hear other systems they take chubbies better, do a bit of a serch and you may find one or the other to be prefered in your local system, either way i find it hard to go past the atomic hardz, good value for money, also when you get snagged, you can wind in until your rod tip gets to the lure and give it a wiggle and 90% of the time you will unsnag it, or go for a dip if your desperate!

Try match the color to the water and persistence. Try not to change the lures too often.Slow roll and they should be ok. If that doesn't work try pauses and twitches.But generally cranks do all the work.If you think you going too slow go even slower.Try checking out how much the lure needs to travel to get the slow roll and do that.Thats what i do pal.As for brands they all catch fish dont get caught on brands (HYPE).My fav is Marias in shallow in most colors,golds,prawny brown,pinks, and the rest.

Cranks are a pretty simple lure to use.

Use light line, 2-3lb fluro straight through is fine if you want to have a dedicated cranking outfit (or spool) 3-6lb braid and 4lb leader is fine for a general set up. The theory goes - lighter line = more bites.

Cranks are suitable to be fished a variety of locations. Oyster leases, Pontoons, bridge pylons, banks, edges and flats are all possibilities, even cast them deep into a snag and carefully slow roll them out over the timber.

Generally, you don't need to set the hooks when using cranks. I use a soft rod and simply wait for the rod to load up and the fish is hooked. Keep tension on the line and the hooks will stick 99% of the time.

Cast them out and if your fishing a slightly deeper spot, a few downward jerks of the rod will bring your lure down to swimming depth and then a very slow simple retrive of the lure is all thats needed. I sometimes put in a few jerks, pauses, shakes of the rod ect but for starters keep with a slow roll.

listen to all the above, also yellowfin and black bream are different.
Yellowfin bream you slow roll it back to you over weed beds, under boat hull pretty much anywhere. slow roll and short pauses.

Black bream its more of an eratic retrieve with twitches and rips. using pauses as often as you can.
