Broken Procaster X

Hi all,
I just got back from a great fishing session.
I got one of the best Bream I have ever got, a nice pregnant 35cm unit.
Anyway, I was snagged, and pulled to get it off, keeping the rod straight and not flexing it. Anyway, I was shattered when the tip snapped clean off!!
I got the rod just a few days ago second hand.
It is only an inch or so broken off, so I kept the runner from the top. It wouldn't quite fit back on the top, so I got a slightly smaller alconite on the top/. (it just looks crap now, cos I have those zirconia nitrade guides and one alconite)

Now to stop rambling and ask my question:
Will this greatly affect the perfromance of my rod??
It is the IM7 6' model. I really want to keep it.
The guy at my tackle shop said it should be alright but I am very lucky it was no more than an inch.
What do you all reckon??
Cheers

im not an expert on the subject but in my opinon the rod was designed to operate with the tip. without it you will lose sensitivity and control. sorry destroyer but it looks liku your are gunna have to relegate that rod to the back of the shed. i know the procaster series has been dicontinued by daiwa so this will be hard to do but your fishing will suffer because of the broken tip. if u look hard enough u might be able to find another, infact if i remember correctly i think geoff had one in the store last time i was there. you should sen him an email or pm and see what he can do for ya

Just tested my rod out after the small glitch.
Only went for a 15 minute flick, but noticed the rod casted just as well as it did when it was 2cm longer.
Got a couple of hits but no fish. Wanna see how it handles loaded up, then suss out what to do.
Might move the second runner back a little to adjust.
(it looks a bit wierd!)
Any opinions???
cheers

BreamDestroyer: keep fishing with it like you said and just see how it goes. Loss of sensitivity might be a problem for you if you're fishing soft plastics... but the rod might still be fine to fish hard bodies with. Depends how you like your rod action. You're the person using it, if it still feels right for you then stick with it!

Good luck.

Why would you laugh (or 'LOL') at the misfortune of someone purchasing something secondhand, and having it break on them? It's a risk you take, and I'm sure BreamDestroyer is/was old enough and wise enough to know that in the back of his mind. Laughing at him is just bad form in my opinion, and not really helping the guy with his enquiry other than perhaps making him look/feel foolish... if you're going to dish out sh!t at least have the good grace to accept some back!

Anyways, I'm not here to argue... just thought it was pretty rude. *watches water go under the bridge*

Fair enough, it just read differently.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
A guy at my local Port Mac store said the clean break was a sign that the graphite was not a problem.
Don't get in a 'blue' over it.
I saw a rod-builder yesterday, and he also said it is not too bad, and he could strip it, and put a new set of re-marked alconites on it if I really wanted it.
cheers

Hi Breamdestroyer

Is the cost of stripping and rebuilding a pro caster (was it?) worth it? If I were you I'd stick with the repairs you have done, cut your losses and put the money towards a Strudie that is available at Port Mac tackle, if that is the shop that is on Gordon and Gore sts.

Go and see the guys there they will steer you straight.

The other thing is that when you buy something second hand, you are buying what ever abuse has been inflicted upon the product by the previous owner. It doesn't take much of a whack on even a small twig or the gunnel of the boat to bruise today's finely built blanks. Results are snappo!

You and the Scorch are Lucky to have in your town such an excellent store and nice guys to deal with. Your also lucky to live where you do its one of my favourite spots and I get up there as many times a year as I can.
