Which duffrod?

Hey guys,

Have decided to get a duffrod with my tax return. I will be using the rod with a 2004 steez with 3lb fluoro straight through. Rod will be used for throwing light hardbodies as far as I can over the flats (for Bream).

These look good on paper:

Sneaky Stix SSP841 and
X Series 840DSI

Do they have a nice slow taper for hardbodies? Is it worth the extra $180 for the X-series?

Oh, and I'm wondering if I should buy through Tackle Headquaters or contact Steve.

Appreciate any input. Thanks!

Justin

Thanks for that link. I did look at this a while ago but somehow I forgot about it! TPF76213 looks good but I don't really like rods over 7 ft. I guess I'll get in touch with Steve.
cheers

Hi Sunny,

The X-Series are Xfast rods, all rounders but do not have a slow taper or are not parabolic enough with locking points on the blank, I still love chucking hards on mine tho!

If you're looking at a hards rod you're best best would be the TPB or TPF, These are part of Steves "Camostix" and have a parabolic action more specificly suited to hardbodies and light lines.

If you're flats fishing I couldn't recommend the TPF 7'6 more, it flings light hards and pink grubs are country mile with the extra length, it is a 2 piece rod and each piece is built seperately, rather then cutting a normal blank in half distrupting the flow of graphite (steve words it better then I do, sorry!)

Steve or his retailers of his rods can pretty much order anything you want in, but if you're chasing info the best bet would be to get in touch with Steve directly and get his opinion as I have done with every rod I've ordered from him and go from there.

MR DUFF GOT MY TAX RETURN TOO DON'T WORRY! lol

Thanks Ado!

I have sent him a message regarding the possibility of getting the TPF76213 in 7ft with some cheaper componentry. I would just buy this rod off the shelf but I just don't enjoy fishing with rods over 7ft. Also, i'd like to keep the buget under $600 if possible.

cheers

Thanks for that mate!

Has anyone used the x842sp? I have just read that it has a nice parabolic action suited to hards and only 7ft. 2 pce a bonus for travel too. Sounds like the one so far...

Hi

The duffs are so adictive, I am signing up to Duff rehab next week!
Sneaky stix are made with cheaper components, thats why they are cheaper.

The customs most people get are made with either recoils and fuji titanium stripper and tip or for HBs a lot of people go with either Fuji Smoke K all the way through or Titanium K all the way through, Most people get the Aero seat (comfort grip) and their choice of high density EVA grips. I would assume you would be looking at under $600.00 for Smoke guides and just over $600.00 for Titanium in the basic set up.

The purpose built HB rod is the 842-2 from memory?? Im sure a X840 with smoke K's all the way through would be fine, they are made to be allrounders. The X840 is a very, very good rod, I use it for everything blades, plastics, hards. The 840 is a x fast taper but the action is fine for hb's. I dont know too much about the two piece rods, I have one but its a flats and its 7'6"

I use X820DS with smoke K guides for my cranking, I have 2 of them, very similar action (also being a allrounder). I can use them for hulls, docks and even flats, the 6'10" is a very good length IMO.

I just got a new Duff and I was so impressed! I didnt know exactly what I was going to get as I didnt know anyone that had one of these customs made up (6"6" 2-6kg) I put my trust in steve and he really came through. It is seriously awesome, throws the lightest plastics but has some serious balls without feeling too stiff. I found it hard to put it down even when we moved out into the deep and fished blades. If you are ever after a structure rod this thing is the best I have seen!

Cheers
Chris
