Hi all,
Just wondering whether anyone can help me on what plastics, vibes and hard bodies to take with me as i am going up north to the gold coast in August for the 2012 Annual Tackle Trade Show. is there any good fishing spots around there? what are the fish up there after in colours, leaders and retrieves? Of course i am definately after some big bream, and maybe the flathead might be showing their faces in small amounts by then... hopefully. Any help would be gladly appreciated. if someone who knows that area or lives up there has any good spots you could always PM me and ill trade you spot for a spot in port stephens. |

Heaps of places here for you to salivate over! Get some prawn heads and head straight for the Southport Trawler Co-Op - throw a few heads in and gaze upon the 1kg bream and Jacks that live there, also the 100kg plus sting DohDohDohDoh that float past on occasion...
Dont bother about trying to entice any of the fish there with bait or lures as they're too well fed and have seen it all before. Some good spots off my head by shore would be Lands End at Biggera Waters for flatties and bream, some of the breakwalls opposite that area and there are some areas where I live at Paradise Point where you can cast to moored boats at the Paradise Point Harbour. Could tell you about some spots in Upper Coomera also.. There's been a few runs of dirty water and some algae hanging about, Regatta Waters lake that once held some stonking Trev's and Green Backed Tailor looks completely dead - since the snot weed made its move in there last Sept 2011. Nothing special is needed up here, reels in the 1000 to 2000 and upto a 3 - 4 kg rod, leader just upto 8lb to 12lb for the scratchy stuff and your typical range of lures and plastics. Wouldnt mind trading a few more spots or even as a guide for a extra ticket to the trade show!

Stock up on some z man plastics because i have found that every fish goes crazy for them and they can be worked in all different ways. Also their colours look amazing and they swim even better. I took them to broom and that would of been my number one lure to go to and they caught me heaps of fish.

The only issue i found with them, but a benenfit as well for skipping across the top is that they float when using using too light a jig and SWS rig. I find this with the paddle tailz. They have the best names though like Midnight Smoke and Evening Opening ??? or similar.
