To be honest with you mate, I think your better off buying an entry level rod from one of the high quality rod builders, and saving a lil longer for a reel to go with it.
IMO, you cant go wrong spending $250 on a GL2 Loomis or a SPS Strudwick, then saving more and getting a reel to match it with. Believe me, you wont regret it.

If your so strapped for cash that its not possible to do the above...I'd get a Heartland IM6 matched with a Diawa Laguna 1500 and 4lb fireline.

HTH

Hi Stu

We have another series of rods of exceptional quality for the price called the Bluestones which offer you a great alternative to the Bream Reapers. The 6'6 Bluestone Bream 1 & 2 or even the 7ft Bluestone Flats. The Bluestone are all $195. For a reel: one of the new Diawa Hardbodz.

Spend just a fraction more...and you'll get a great setup. I recently purchased a Daiwa Capricorn 1500 from the site for $249. My brother got me a new rod for Xmas...Wilson Live Fibre Lightning. 7 ft 2-4kg, full graphite body...light as and beutifully balanced. I thing they are between 100-150. So If you have $300 and can bump it up by another 50-100 bucks I recommend this combo. You wont get better for $300-350.

For under $300 you should be able to buy a Diawa procaster 6'6" rod & a Shimano Sahara reels .Then all you will need is some 4lb Fireline & some Flurocarbon leader.Good fishin.

If you have a budget of $300 then rods like the strudwick "Sic Stik" about $160 or a model from the shimano squidgee, or Wilson range should suit you well. As for reels you could look at Shimano shahara ($99), Diawa Kastor($132) or Okuma Epix ($140). Most of these combos' will bring you in under $300 and you will have a few $$$ left for other stuff, but you will still have a very nice outfit at the end of the day.

If you have a budget, then try to stick to it. There are guys out there using $2000 dollar outfits to catch bream and although they may do well, I really doubt that any combinations of the above gear would be less effective then a $2000 outfit.

Good luck with your choice
Mick

Hi K.4.R.M.4,

Sorry about that. We will add the info on the site. The Bluestone Bream 1 (2-3kg) is available in one or two piece. The Bream 2 (2-4kg) and Flats rod only come in one piece.
Cheers,
Cindy

Daiwa Procaster Z (variety of line weights and tapers - try them all out) - $209

Daiwa Caprice 1500 - $99

Shouldn't break the bank and is a sweet little combo - the rod helped tame largish queenies and spanglies up north for my mate, but it also has enough whip to cast the 1/16th he was using. Also comes with a $150 set of Fuji Alconite guides.

The reel is part of the Hardbody series, one under the Laguna but certainly up there in terms of quality. Without breaking the bank this one combo I'd be happy to use despite owning higher-end gear.

cheers

Thanks for all you imput guys and girls. With Geoff and Bear's help I went for a 2 piece 6'6" strudwick Sic Stik and an okuma av20, expertly spooled up with 4lb fireline by Geoff. Great little entry level setup under 300 slides, well balanced and a DohDohDohDoh load lighter than the bamboo pole and kitchen beater I was using. I reckon I have half a chance now......... I can't say enough about the shop and Geoff and Bears expert opinions, ideas and tips. Don't consider going elsewhere for your gear as you will miss out on all the extras you get when you go there.

Thanks again guys

Stuart

As I said yesterday I'm sort of glad I live a fair distance from the shop as I would be broke and make a pest of myself
