Tying a slim beauty with braid and fluorocarbon

I have been trying to tie a "slim beauty" knot using 6 lb braid and 8 lb FC Flurocarbon.
I carnt get the braid to form the knot until its too small to see to thread the Fluro through. Is there a better knot or what am I doing wrong?I just want a knot that doesn't catch on the runners as much.

I have been using fire line but have just purchased some castaway to try.
Thanks
Trev

Have tried looking at video online and comparing it to your process?

Try this link for a step by step process.

I believe you're meant to tie the figure 8 knot with the fluorocarbon and then thread/pass the braid through.

If you add an extra overhand knot to the fluorocarbon the figure 8 forms much earlier, making it easier to pass the braid through.

Hope that helps

Correct, the figure 8 knot is in the Flouro no the braid!

That's it Trev - your doing it backwards!

As suggested do the figure of 8 in the FC.

Hi Trev,

I had trouble seeing it too. Using 4lb braid and 4lb fluro. Then picked up some 2.oo reading glasses from the chemist. It all became clear and no problem now. Always keep em with me when fishing.

if you make a loop in the leader, twist it twice then pull the tag end thru, you get a nice size figure 8 that is easy thread the braid thru...

So evil nev you dont have to pull it down as far as the figure 8 is sooo small. Ill try it when I get home.

Thanks

Another good one is, instead of doing two knots to make the figure 8 do three, makes the holes much bigger!

Improved albright is equally effective in my opinion and easier to tie

Just tried the 3 twist thing, it does make bigger holes

Do u reckon it makes any difference to knot strength?
