Luckiest Bream Alive

Heres a few pics of my mates 1st bream on a lure in the Murray river W.A.. I was quite surprised when i turned around and saw this freak. Obviously it has been half eaten by a dolphin some time in its life and was once again returned to fight another day.Pic_1229_041.jpg

Now that bream would have some stories to tell, we have caught quite a few in the Murray with similar defects!!!

Might have escaped from a net at an early age ,just goes to show how tough they are,,most ones you see are damaged on top from bird strikes my guess is but this is top and bottom,,

I reckon it's a deformity or some sort of disease rather than physical injury as i've caught something similar in the parramatta river last year.

Being a fisheries management student I can tell you that, that scar is from a getting caught in a net at a young age. I have seen a lot of samples of fish with that type of "hour glass" shape where they have been caught in a gill net, and it has compressed parts of their body. This fish was very very lucky to survive! I've only seen one other fish similar, and it was dead!
