Saltwater leader : Fluro Vs Mono

Hey guys.

When it comes to line im a bit obsesive. I see it as being the most important part of your set up. Its what conects everything togther and a good line will cats further and not break as easy.
I have tried almost every braid out there in search the ultimate.

When it comes to leaders though for some reason i havnt done much experimenting.

Im wondering if there are any other freaks like me, out there who have actually tested fluro vs mono.

So many people on the net have oppionions when half the time they are just telling you to buy what they own, which often is the only product they have used.

With light leader there is defiantly a huge difference between leader fluro and casting fluro, With leader fluro tying much better knots and being MUCH more abrasive resistant.

Im heading up north soon and need some leader in 20, 30 and 50lb but cant decide whether to get fluro or do what the "wallet" wants and stick with fluro leader.

Has anyone used both and has a prefference.
I have noticed that fluro leader is often thinner and i belive it cast better through th guides. But if fluro is all that they say it is idd rather be safe tha sorry.

Might just have to take both up and do some testing myself

cant compair because ive only used the 10x leader in higher lb, but that stuff gets scuffed up quick, if you find a fluro that you get reefed on and comes out ok let me know

Used to use 10x durring my dirty baito days especially for snapper.
Pretty thick for its rating. Your right about it getting scuffed but it was still stong even when scuffed.

had 4lb yamtoyo harris rock fighter raped around 3 trees and got the fish out.

Also dug a fish out for alex using the same line in 6 i think out of an even worse snag in the black wood

10x is awesome for the price!, must of had a bit of a dud batch of 40lb, or the jacks in hedland live in razor snags. i think ill try to find some good fluro for when i get out there tackling some snapper, thick is good for us underconfident lol.

I now almost exclusively use 20lb Sunline Rockfish Fluoro for barra and all kinds of bitey creatures around Darwin. It has a wonderful strength for its thin diameter, and is as tough as nails. It is more economical than other "leader" fluoros I've used, coming in a 70m spool rather than the usual 30m Leader spools. I've tried a few different brands, including FC Sniper (less abrasion resistance), the YGK Leader spools you find in tackle shops up here, Black Magic Leader and Toray Solaroam Super Hard Strong (as abrasion resistant as the Rockfish, although slightly more supple and a bit thicker in diameter for the same rating). Personally I think the spools sold as specialist leader material are way overpriced and I can find no superiority fishing with them when using 20lb leaders and over.

Thanks mate.

Thats the stuff i want to here.

I love the Yamatoyo especially because it comes in 50m spools rather than 30m.

But once it gets over 16lb you only get 10m spools and the price is still the same

I've used the Sunline FC100 in 30 & 40lb and very happy with its strength & abrasion resistance ... its pretty much a heavy version of the V-Hard and just as dear. Anything over 40lb or for topwater applications I use Schneider Klear ... you got to stop somewhere ...

I posted a similar thread and 20 guys all said FC Rock and that stiffish great value I'd highly recommend that it's cheaper on eBay to.

What he said. The new Jinkai plus is even better I think.

i've only been up north once and I used the Jinkai plus in 40lb. I use it for snapper and mullys too. Pretty good abrasion resistance and knot strength.
