If i am rigging up at home i will do a Bimini, if I am rigging up while fishing i go with out it. Whether it helps or not, I feel more confident in putting my lures in stupid places when i have a Bimini

I always use a Bimini on anything over 20lb. With a little practice you can knock one up really quickly. Strongest knot I've tied and worth the effort!

Ditto for me. I only use a double on heavier gear, on bream gear its a bit of overkill I reckon.

After listening to the majority of popular and knowledgeable fisherman, bushy and harro included, I have scrapped the bimini knot. The only time I need a double is when using wind on leaders. I now tie doubles with a four turn overhand knot I picked up from one of harro's books. Can always increase number of turns when necessary and piece of piece to tie. Can do it with a few beers under my belt on a rainy night
I remember fishing with a bloke who was trying to tie a bimini in 4lb braid for bream. from memory I caught three fish before he finished his knot, and I doubt it would have been all that reliable.
Can't see the point if a bimini or any double in light line Fishin to be honest
Cheers

Always use a double, will retie a bimini where ever I am, home or on the boat. A bit of practise and it's pretty easy and quick.

I used to use a Bimini for all my fishing but these days I don't bother. There are heaps of knots for light line applications that retain more than enough strength. I persisted with the Bimini on the heavy gear untill I discovered the FG knot. It slides through the guides better, can be wound on the reel if need be, is strong as a bull and can also be wound through the level wind on my bait caster.

I think it depends on the braid-leader your using. I only tie them when fishing a braid thats a fair bit lighter than the leader. Usually 10lb braid - 40lb leader or 20/30lb braid - 60lb leader. With out one I find you have to do way more turns in an albright and more half hitches at the end to stop it from slipping. Even then the knots nowhere near as strong

Looks like a strong knot, but........
Would not wanna tie that bad boy twice, it'd take too long and you'd miss a tide change.
Not a fan of the mono being able to damage the braid and also using a lighter for a braid/leader connection.
Plus you would always have to carry a bottle of water for when you run out of spit. He left more dna on that knot than youd find on a bed in a dodgy hotel.
Not something I could see my clumsy self tie on a boat, at night and half cut
Cool knot but, too full on for me tho

Screw it
I'm gonna learn that knot. Reckon it'd go alright with 30lb braid and 50-80lb leader or too light?

Just saw tge coolest thing, its called an ez knotter. Helps out with the fg knot. actually makes it look a lot easier to tie. I reckon it may come in handy with home made wind on leaders.
YouTube it, awesome

LOL true but its an awesome knot none the less.
I use it when Cod fishing with 30-50lb braid and 60-80lb leaders and it is by far the best connection I have found. I used a bimini and a variation of an albright before this and while it was supper strong it had a couple of deficiencies. Firstly it would clunk through the guides, 90% of my cod fishing is done casting large spinnerbaits and the clunk really gave me the s@#ts. The FG slides through the guides like it's not there. Secondly with an albright and its many variations the mono is on the out side of the knot this means that when u cast the mono gets hit by the guides, when u run a lure retriever down the line the mono again cops the brunt of it, with the FG the mono is hidden away.
Over the years I have had a couple of albright knots fail with little pressure after a long days fishing and I think the main reason is damage caused by the guides and the lure retriever, Im yet to have a FG let go.
The EZ knotter looks good but it really isnt that hard to tie by hand. Tie ten of them and its surprising how easy it becomes, just make sure u use heavy line classes, I tried it with light line first and found the weave a bugger to do.

I saw it done where you assemble the rod and reel and tie the braid to the first guide, tighten the drag right up and reel in the slack. Proceed from there according to almighty YouTube
