Barra spin - What rod?
Looking for a rod around 5-10kg, medium action at about $500.
Thinking a GLX around 6'8, but G.Loomis spins tends to be too fast in there action on there spin models for me - so it's only a maybe for now. Rod will be matched to a Branzino, used for rolling slickrigs and big blades/vibes for Barramundi. Thanks. |

For barra I put my branzino on an egrell bear s10. Great rod for working slick rigs and the like. However, I am yet to put a decent barra over it
It does handle big queenies and med gt's like a dream though, so u don't think barra will challenge it too much. Great rod for casting lighter lures too, whixh I was surprised with. I had.no problems throwing three inch gulp shrimp on 1/6 jig heads at goldens.

How do I go about ordering an Egrell, just by the website or is there a online dealer that sells them?
What's the taper like, as I'm not a fan of broomsticks... |

I got my rod from tacklewarehouse.com.au from memory.
I find the taper is perfect for flinging heavier plastics and Is still sensitive enough to let loose with lighter lures. A great all rounder for flicking sp lures of all shapes and sizes for all sorts of fish.

Also, don't get a raider rod. No offence. A branzino on that rod would be like an ugly turd like myself making out with a super model.

Didn't like the sol rod I had a while back, not sure if I should expect the same - taper wise.
I might look into a steez otherwise, how are they? So far, I'm leaning more towards a Egrell.. Heard nothing but great reviews from them. |

I use a GLX HSR9000 for larger lures and deep divers, which I find has a slower action than many other similarly rated loomis rods. I've also used this for big queenies and GT off the rocks on the Dampier peninsular, and it is my standard milkfish rod matched to a 3012 hyper exist. But my main all-purpose barra rod is an NRX 822s DSR macthed with a 2500 certate, which has also handled 1 metre milkfish that could pull any 120 cm barra backwards. Personally I think many barra fishermen go way too heavy... Possibly Darwin's best land-based barra angler, Hiro from http://secretbarramundi.blogspot.com.au/, uses a 4kg t-curve flight. Overkill is often produced by the enthusiasm for catching a metery, but such fish are rare and can be handled on lighter gear that will be more appropriate -and fun -for catching the average 50cm to 80cm fish. I'm now getting down to around 5kg braid for open water, and 20lb pe for snaggy places.
