Hey,

I haven't used these rods, but from the write up on DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh and pictures they seem great value for under $100, to qualify my statement I've currently got 3 samaki rods in my quiver and I've been impressed by all of them. (One of them was ok, but is excellent once I put a heavier reel on it). The build quality is good, pricing is exellent and I like the style of the rods.

I've actually got another 3 Samaki's on the way

Hey guys, been looking at these rods just lately, thought the 602SXL might be a great kayak rod and would match well with a 1000 size reel (yet to test this theory though lol). One the guys from Samaki kindly sent me a photo of the butt section for both the 602SXL (top) and the 701SL/702SL (bottom).

Anyone had a feel in the flesh of these rods? If so what were your thoughts?

Thinking I could possibly match with a 1000 size Daiwa Aird for a nice yet cheap combo?

Go for Daiwa Aird mate. I got mine a month ago, bashed it for Tailors, Skippys and Bream and it never complains. And it's cheap! Just a suggestion. =)

Thanks Vivo, will defnitely look at them sometime this week. I believe the 2000 comes with a 1500 spool. It appears 1000 size is only available outside of Australia.

As before, any first hand experiences with the samaki skitch would be great guys.

Thanks

My dad has a skitch and I have fished with it a bit. In my honest opinion I would rather fish the skitch over my fire raider any day. It has a crisper feel than the raider and is much better for plastics and balde work. It is fairly light and very comfortable. In terms of casting it does what I need it to, probably not as good as higher quality rods though it does the job. I would definitely recommend it as a good value rod. 7ft model balances well with a 230g reel.
