Why does the 2500 ballistic only have 4kg of drag.

My sister is going to the states next week and she's going to pick up a reel for me.
I was thinking the 2500 ballistic but I've noticed it has 4 kg of drag compared to the freams which is almost identical and runs almost double the amount of drag to the ballistic.
Any one have any idea why.
I really wanted the shimano rarenium but I cant even find one in the states.

Who cares...2 kilos of drag would keep me happy...how many times does the average fisho go full drag anyway...dont expect a bmw for a hyundai price...and by local so that you get the warrenty....

Unless you plan on running 30lb line on that 2500 reel I wouldn't worry about it. Given a 2500 reel would most likely see 10-15lb line on it (15lb being the absolute most I would think of, ~10lb is what they're designed for) you will only ever run 1-2kg of drag anyway.

Yea mate most things are! Well done I don't think it really matters where it's made as long as it is using quality componants in it (Which they seem to be) It shouldn't matter whether a chineese or an australian person puts the thing together there all gona be the same in the end.

Dont get too caught up with how much drag a reel has for estuary use, a smooth progressive drag is much better than 6kg of sticky drag. Unless you are putting it on a 20lb rated rod you will never even use the whole 4kg that it has.

Four kilo is plenty. Some people use much less on much bigger fish on smaller reels.
Yeah, buy local too. Always a good idea, not the wisest most fiscal idea, but good nonetheless.

Just did a quick check on a couple of popular sites - ballistic in the states $199 vs $219locally.
And when you get to the register in the states they will charge tax on top of the $199.
If your buying on a credit card you won't get the 99c exchange rate quoted on the news, it'll be more like 95c.

Prices on some stuff is finally evening out I guess, although there are still items where its hard to ignore the difference on.

IMO that little saving is not worth losing your warranty over.

Having no warranty just to save maybe 10% is not worth it, and if you decide to send it back to America for the warranty you'll definitely negate any and all savings.

Most baitcaster only comes with 4kg drags (Alpha/Zillion) and I've seen a fair few decent fish caught on them!

Even my Calias would be probably less then 4kg and Cy/Kerrin Taylor fish these all the time.

You shouldn't need much more drag unless you plan to chase Tuna and Mackeral on it, even then. The Spool capacity would be your bigger concern.

Heck, you might aswell purchase a Fuego (American Luvias) now.

They're going for $164.99 on TW USA, can almost be certain it would be alot better of a choice.

Each to there own though, I agree with the above comments.

Just buy one from AUS, it's probably works out cheaper, warrantee plus no waiting until she comes back from America till you can actually use it.

I got my ballistic or 170$ delivered where as it was 249$ locally. Buying online can be alot cheaper just have to wait and look for the deals.

How much drag does the 2000 have? I just got last years caldia dirt cheap from mo"s (2500) and fitted a 2506 spool because I thaught that 7 kg drag was excessive. 4 kg is heaps+ everyone is probably.running 4lb line. Would like a 2000 for trout. I am very dissapointed with shimano of late, had a few rods snap and reels self destruct, have just made the switch to daiwa and lovin it
